Default Coolant low LS460-OK to use Zerex coolant

Just noticed that my coolant is low and its Sunday. Toyota parts closed but Napa has the Zerex Asian Vehicle coolant (pinkish color) available for about $15/gallon.

Is it OK to use this for the LS460 coolant or best to stick to Toyota/Lexus?

If Toyota, can I go get the coolant at the Toyota dealer instead of the Lexus dealer? Noticed that Lexus dealers charges more than the toyota even the same part number.

Don't know about the formulation for Zerex, but to your last question, the answer is yes. What Lexus would sell you is Toyota coolant (just like every other Lexus part).

I'd suggest sticking with Toyota Long Life-Time Coolant.

I just picked up 2 gallons at Lexus for $36. Not bad. It was cheaper than buying it at Toyota, as I found a 20% off coupon on Lexus' website.

I recommend using Toyota Super Long Life coolant you can buy it for $16 a gallon here

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11400...OC%3AUS%3A3160

Our car takes 2 and half gallons to fill from empty. I had my water pump replaced this weakend due to a very slow leak but first part I had to replace and I have 149, ??? miles on her, replaced the drive belt too.

thanks everyone. A question, i have about 40K miles on my LS460L and the coolant is about 1/4 below the LOW level. I wonder if I can just fill with distilled water or do I need to fill with coolant?

If you want to just top it off, take it to your lexus dealer. A lot of dealers will top it off for free.

$16 + $15 shipping is more expensive than the dealer.

Default LS Coolant

Why spend money on a luxury car and then try to go cheap on aftermarket needs? Use what the owner's manual specifies and you will be okay and have no warranty issues should a problem arise.

I know what you're saying Valley, but going "cheap" isn't necessarily going inferior, just less expensive. The fact is many top grade brand name manufacturers sell their product to generic brand sellers. For example, Duracell sells batteries to at least one private label seller. A four pack of Duracell AA batteries sells for $4.99 at a major retailer. That retailer also sells their own private label AA batteries for $3.99. Well guess who makes their batteries? You guessed it, Duracell.

I don't know this for a fact, but I would bet anything that Toyota/Lexus does not manufacture their own anti-freeze. I would say they buy it from an existing manufacturer. Zerex is a quality product. They may not sell to Toyota/Lexus, but they might.

I realise I'm replying to an old post, but I couldn't help notice the high price mentioned for a gallon of coolant. I just bought a gallon on the pinkish coolant the other day for well under $10. It was not the Lexus brand, but does no less of a job. I was told this a long time back by a honest guy at Lexus (yes they are out there, but not easy to find ).

The industry "color coding" of coolant seems to have lost its way ... for me, I just use the Toyota coolant ... no question as to (mix) compatibility ... again ... no horsepower increase or fuel savings to be gained here, so why get into analysis paralysis ... it's coolant !
