Default Cabin Air Filter

I have a 2010 LS. I have changed the cabin air filter previously in another model. No big deal, but here is my question. I purchased a TYC replacement filter. It looks and fits exactly like the OEM. The instructions that came with the reeplacement filter say to install the new filter with the air flow arrow on the side pointing down. The filter from the car which has 14,000 miles on it and is almost new looking, has the arrow pointing up, the arrow on the filter frame is pointing up and the owner's manual says reinstall the new filter with the arrow pointing up. The filters look the same (old one and new one) and I am hesitant to install the new one with the arrow pointing down per the instructions that came with the filter when the manual and OEM filter have the arrow pointing up. Do not know what to do. Any advice on this? Thank you.

I also use TYC filters and have replaced it with the arrow pointing up, but never checked the directions until I read your post. I usually buy 2 or 3 at a time and had one in my garage so I just looked at the directions and you are right, they say to reinstall with the arrow pointing down.

I know why I changed it with the arrow up - the OEM that was in there when the car was new had the arrow up.

I guess the arrow on the TYC indicates the direction of the air flow.

Next time I change it I will point the arrow down. Just have to keep on trying until one gets it right in life.

How do we know if the TYC directions are correct? The TYC filter looks the same as the OEM and the OEM arrow points up. My original filter was pretty clean after 14,000 miles, so I put it back in rather than putting the new one in the wrong way. Do not know how to get the correct information from TYC. I tried calling them but got nowhere. What happens if you install the filter facing the wrong direction?
