Default 10K oil Change?

I have a 2007 460l. I have changed the oil 3500 miles ago with Mobile 1 0/20 weight.I have heard that the 2010,2011 LS 460 change oil every 10K. What is the difference? would I be wise to change every 10k instead of 5k?

Thanks in advance for your imput.

First of all, WELCOME to Club Lexus ! This is why we are here .... To share .... To learn ..... To brag/boast .... LOL !

Please keep in mind ........ that prior to 2010, Lexus oil was a "synthetic blend." By no means was/is it a FULLY synthetic oil, whatsoever.

That is WHY Lexus' recommends/requires (etc) 5000 between oil changes for vehicles prior to 2010.

When dealing with matters like this, it's always good to get all of the facts so we alll know what we are dealing with.

jlawr posted a GREAT Resource. It's the Lexus' "Oil Viscosity Applicability and Change Interval Guide." It is well worth your time to read it (takes maybe 60 seconds.)

If you missed it, I have re-attached a copy herein.

Thus, the recommended oil change interval is actually based on the actual TYPE of oil used, and not the weight. Keep in mind that "synthetic blend" is simply a re-formulated dino petroleum with additional additives. It's a long ways - performance and longevity-wise - from anything being marketed as "Synthetic Oil" in the U.S. today.

As an owner, OIL CHANGE Interval can be decided quickly by what type of Warranty you may have in place ? And if you have a CPO Lexus, or one covered by some sort of remaining factory new car warranty, or an Extended Warranty, it's a really smart idea to perform their (Lexus') required maintenance at THE LEXUS' recommended intervals.

If, however, that issue (remaining warranty) doesn't apply to you, and you wish to use Mobil 1, Valvoline, Amsoil fully synthetic oil and go 10K between changes ..... go for it..

Best Wishes to all .........

I have a 2007 LS 460 and it was factory filled with 0W20 full synthetic from the facrory. I don't know where you got your information about Lexus oil not being full synthetic before 2010? I change my oil with full synthetic once a year, or every 5000 miles. If you put a lot of miles on your vehicle and use full synthetic oil, I don't see why you couldn't change your oil every 10,000 miles. Lexus doesn't have their own oil, I run Toyota 0W20 full synthetic or Mobil 1 0W20, which are both made by Mobil...
