Question Engine Swaps

Just curious ...

Has anyone on here (or any other site that you know of) swapped in a 5.7L 3UR-FE, or a 5.0L 2UR-GSE engine in place of the 4.6L 1UR-FSE engine in our LS460 cars? I know thta the 5.0L 2UR-FSE is used in the LS600hL cars, but that's a bit different.

I know that the 4.6L in our cars uses a D4S direct injection fuel system, where the 5.7L does not. It seems as though you might be able to use the bottom end from a 3UR motor and put our 1UR top end on it, and get along with the extra stroke of that engine. All of the engines above have a 94mm bore, and the stroke differences are 83mm for the 4.6L, 89.5mm for the 5.0L, and 102mm for the 5.7L.

It seems as though the computer would be smart enough to possibly adjust for the added stroke, but who knows? Has this been done that you guys know of?

What about using the TRD supercharger that is used on the 5.7L Tundra? I know that the supercharger comes with specific tuning for the ECM to manage fuel curves for the extra demands. Seems like this could be done for the 4.6L also?

I have a 5.7L Tundra that I'll be selling shortly (no longer need or use it), and it certainly is a peppy motor. I suppose the other consideration here is whether or not the LS460's 8 speed auto is up to the task. The 5.7L Tundra has a 6 speed auto that has been great for me.

I don't see why you would want to do an engine swap, the 4.6 is fine. If you want something faster buy an ISF..

dude these cars are way to new to start talking about engine swaps. This is just not that type of car. Its a premium luxury car not a Nissan 240, AE86, or RX7:

Well the key is you started the thread with "Just curious ..." It can be fun to speculate on certain things even though the likelihood of it happening is remote.

You mentioned several potential issues and I can think of several more. Beyond that, I'm wondering if a swap would even help performance. I guess you would have better low end torque, but probably at the expense of the top end. But since there's a governor anyway, that may not matter.

If you do the swap, post some pics as you go!

wouldn't swap the engine but look to build up on the 4.6 supercharger or get it stroked to 5.0

If you're going to do an engine swap, do it the Lexus way!!!! Drop the LFA's V10, tranny with ECU. Hmmmm seriously Lexus should do that! The Audi A8 had the v8, and S8 had the V10 Hint hint Lexus

But back to reality, a v10 would cost u just as much as the cheapest Lexus, so just wait for an LFA to be destroyed and by the engine from the salvage yard..

Well, first off, I would NOT do it to this car. Too much money invested in what is a daily driver for me. If it was only a project car, and I didn't have as much tied up in it, I might consider it.

It's funny that some of you used terms like "rice" or said "if you want a faster car, buy an IS-F instead" ?? No offense, but a lot of what you call "rice" is just "hot-rodding" cars. A lot of what you guys do in the way of changing merely the "looks" of cars with body kits, wheels, etc would be considered "rice" by a major part of the automotive community <-- I am in by no way criticizing, because I think it's great to have people express themselves with their cars.

I only brought this up as a thread, because I wanted to see if anyone else had done it, and if so, where I could read about it. It seems like no matter what the automotive community, there's always some elitist who just looks down at anyone else who might do something to a similar car that they couldn't see themselves doing.

I hope each of you continue to have fun with your car in the way you see fit, as long as it makes you happy and it doesn't hurt anyone else, have a blast with it!

Default Have you seen this beast?

Not done by a private owner, but it at least gives a sense of what could be done absent any resource limitations.

When I first heard of it, I wondered if it used a 5.0 from either the 600hL or IS-F in turbo or supercharged mode (I literally wrote that in an email to a friend who sent me the initial release on this), and then this came out with details. V-10 from the LF-A would have been quite neat too, no doubt about it.

I finally see some 460 owners chatting it up. I'm wondering if adding a Cold Air Intake and exhaust at the same time would give us the 40 hp lost from the LS460?

It would possibly give you 2hp up top and a loss of torque down low. It's the HKS super charger or nothing. Why because it's the only plug and play part that is available and there is no other support for this car.
