My 2007 lexus has started making the shuttering noise. I took it to the dealer and they told me its the torque converter. I have read that doing a flush may solve the problem or else the transmission will need to be replaced. My local mechanic (who is a very competent) said its rate a torque converter will go bad on its own and if a flush doesnt help, i most likely need to rebuild the tranny.

For those who have the shutter, has it gotten worse over time?

Which car do you have(i.e. AWD)? And what is your current mileage? Have you ever had the transmission fluid changed? Can you describe the noise or is it just a hesitation? Does it happen everytime you accelerate or only under full/aggressive throttle?

Hi everyone, I'll throw in my two cents here. I have a 2013 CPO AWD and have owned it about 5 months now. Over the last couple of months, I have started to feel what I would describe as a shudder from the front of the car when taking my foot off the gas at about 60 mph slowing to about 50 mph. I thought it was the tranny or something in the drivetrain. Today I took it in for the 5000 mile service and mentioned it to the advisor. He has the tech's take it for a ride and they felt the same thing. Contacted Lexus and apparently it is a known issue with the front drive shafts. They ordered them today and will be replacing them both tomorrow. Again, I'm not sure the issue is related to this one since it seems to be a shudder/delay on acceleration, but thought I would mention it if it helps.

How often do the AWD owners drain/re-fill the front diff and transfer cases? Does anyone have a schedule that they follow besides "never"? I've heard SUV recommendations that describe changing the transfer case and diff. fluids when a shudder presents,

AWD Transfer Case Vibration Possible Fix
Ever since I purchased my 08 LS600hL it had the common issue of the vibration and noise as described in TSB L-SB-0023-11. I had a hard time believing that there was some crazy expensive magic fluid that would fix the problem. As an experiment I decided to instead replace the fluid with Amsoil 75w90 severe gear. It is a GL 5 fluid and as far is Toyota is concerned an acceptable substitute. It even has a street price of $16 a quart. Far cry from the $120+ the Toyota miracle fluid goes for.

So with the amsoil in hand, I drained the existing fluid and replaced. Instead of driving for 1 mile as the repair suggests, I decided to drive a week to really let the fluid work in. After about 5 minutes of driving the noise and shuddering effectively disappeared. I can turn much more smoothly now.

After driving the car for a week now I'm glad to report that the fix has still worked flawlessly. I will continue to drive for another 5000 miles and at my next oil change if the noise starts to return I will repeat the process and keep this thread updated. Hopefully this can save other Awd owners out there some money!

i have the same issue, but it not much evident most of the time to complain. I do feel the vibrations more if i go on a hilly road, when the car dips and comes up- in the exact moment. I got new tires and it didnt really help.

I don't have AWD, but to answer the question on when to change diff fluid, my manual states every 40k miles or so (I forget the exact number).

I would personallypurchase a extended warranty as soon as possible,maybe a lower tier one that only covers the engine,trans and drive axle...Good luck...
