Default rear legroom - LS460 vs LS460L

Hello all, I'm interested in buying a 460L for the extra rear legroom, but when I actually looked at the specs, there doesn't seem to be much difference from the 460. According to the Lexus Canada site (for some reason the the U.S. Lexus site doesn't have the rear legroom data), the LS460 has 35.8" of rear legroom, while the LS460L has 36.7" of rear legroom. That's less than 1" of extra space. Can that really be correct?

Your best bet is to go to a dealer and make your own measurements.

The difference is astounding. a 6 ft tall grown man can easily cross his legs with the front seat all the way back. The L version was almost the entire reason we bought a 460. Just like the difference only a couple of inches makes on an airplane seat, the same applies here.

I am sure it is more than that but there is also one less seat as well.

i am 6ft 1in tall, and i can tell you without a doubt, the L makes a huge difference for rear passenger leg room!!! my knee barely touches the back of the front seat in the SWB, but my knee is about 5 inches from the seat in the LWB model..lol Plus, that 5 inches makes a difference in how it looks overall..much better..hell, just ask any lady and she'll tell you the same lol

I thought that the 460L is 5" longer than the 460 but 4 of the five extra inches are for the rear of the car

4.8" goto the cabin space. The legroom is worth it, if you have a chauffeur.

OP here. I guess those Lexus specs are wrong, which I suspected...people aren't going to pay the $5000 L premium for 1" more rear legroom.

I don't know if this is the right forum for this, but one other question I had: I want my new car to have i) soft suspension ii) ample rear legroom, iii) not too soft seats. Can anyone think of another (less expensive) sedan that has these characteristics?

Thanks!

As Henry and Tee stated, the entire additional length is in the rear, specifically the rear doors. The SWB LS actually has a very spacious backseat but the LWB really takes it to another level. Remember there is even a reclining seat option.

Default ls 460l Rear seat room is absurd!!!!

The rear seat room is what sold me mine. It really is bordering on absurd when you sit back there. As the driver I am envious when I look at my kids stretched out like they are riding around in a Lazy Boy. Really a nice part of the L. With the standard L with the fold down center console in the rear you are not giving up the middle/third seat, it is only on the model with the drink cooler option I believe. I absolutely Love my ls and despite my previous rides being BMW and Mercedes (fine cars of their own) I will be hard pressed not to stay with the Lexus line going forward.

I have an L and love the huge space for the rear seat leg room. Here's my 2011 with the driver's seat and maybe also the passenger seat all the way back:

Since the trunk size is the same, all 4.7 extra inches goes to the rear seat leg room.

The rear seat xtra legroom is what sold me. My MB had a humungous trunk but sacrificed on rear seat legroom. I don't have a big trunk, but I can practically lay down with the rear seat reclined in the Executive configuration.
