I recently purchased a LS460 after test driving all three. I really liked the the S550 and seriously considered purchase. The car is smooth and has great power and response. My concerns had to do with long term reliability and the associated costs as well as the Navigation system (big concern).
I find the LS460 much more user friendly and to me that is a big plus. I must also admit I have owned an LS in the past and the rock solid nature of the car was a big draw to own one again. I am sure the S550 with the right warranty would be a pleasure to drive and live with (I have no doubt).
The BWM seemed a little heavy after driving a 535 and 550. Everyone has a favorite after driving, pick the one that is right for you...

Driving home tonight, I was thinking of this thread when an Audi A8 passed by. Beautiful car to my eyes. Then not too far down the road was an A4 on the side of the road with flat bed loading it up.
Better question to ask is what car for X time period in years?

If I were in the segment for leasing, an MB or BMW at 3 years might be tempting. At a 10+ year projection, I'm not so confident with the prior two at that interval. What are your thoughts on a long term car?

Long term car. Lexus no doubt. Like someone mentioned above, if you're looking for reliability and long term, go with Lexus. If you want performance and money isn't an issue, go with BMW with extended warranty. I wouldn't buy a Mercedes.
This question should be asked though, what are your priorites in term of: exterior, interior, value, reliability, performance, and prestige.
For me it's:
exterior, performance, prestige, reliability, interior, value
I guess that's why I own a BMW and a Lexus as my beater car.

I rather be awesome I’m young, successful and flashy. So I got go S550 with the AMG pkg. That car screams baller coming thru. The 7 is ok, the LS make me yawn.
I must say the LS body style has come a long way.
