My dealer told me that this "amp blow out" has been fairly common in the 460's ... and that the replacement amp is actually an upgraded version. He basically hinted at the notion the factory amp was a piece of crap lol.

High praise indeed coming from a dealer, of all people...

Both my 460 and 600 ML systems were fine, if not excellent.

My only complaint with them was the low end was sooo low, it gave me headaches (literally).

So my 07 Ls460 w/ only 25k audio suddenly stop working and having a chirping sound. I called lexus and my warranty expired in May. I asked about the replacing the ML amp and was quoted around 1200 plus labor to swap for a recondition one. So after reading on this forum, I contacted united radio in NY and was quoted 325 which included the return shipping. I removed the amp in the trunk and sent it immediately. The day they received the amp, it was repaired and shipped back to me within two days.

Plugged it back in and everything is back to normal..

Just want to thanks you guys for the info and united radio for the repair..saved me over 1000 big ones..

I'm also disappointed in Lexus and ML for allowing this defective amp in their flagship car.

I highly recommend united radio if anyone experiences the same issue...

chirping in audio is dead amp - dealer fixed mine as a courtesy for free even though out of warranty. Said new one is about $1500 LS460 2007 30K miles

So let me get this clear. Everytime the screen shows no audio. The amp is bad? Cause when I hit certain bumps. The screen shows up "no audio" and all of my CDs get ejected.

i wouldn't say that. at least in your case, i don't think a bad amp will cause your head unit to puke out all the discs. seems like something is up with your head unit or the connections

Sounds more like a loose connection somewhere in your system.

How does an amp break? Anything the user can do to prevent it from happening?

Default LS460 ML Amp Replacement 4/2012 Update

I just replaced my 07 LS460 Amp as described in this thread. Amp is located on the trunk floor to the right of the spare tire. Very Easy to remove and replace. United Audio now wants $400 to repair amp; still a great deal compared to the $1200 Quote from the dealer (+ junk fees and taxes). Amp was repaired and returned via UPS same day - Great Service! BTW, chirping stops when you remove amp.
