Your HIGHWAY Gas Mileage Numbers?

I too have an 84 mile daily commute (round trip) and I average around 30 mpg highway (65-70mph). For a usual week, which is around five hundred miles of driving for me, I average 27 mpg. But that's when temperatures were a lot warmer than they are now...now I'm averaging 25-26 mpg.
This winter is killing my car, between the snow, the cold, the road salt, the sand...I'm just hoping to get out of it unscathed. Right now my car looks like someone dumped four tons of salt all over it - I just can't keep up with cleaning it - as soon as I clean it, it's dirty five minutes later. For a rear wheel drive car it's a beast in the snow (with snow tires). Been very impressed with the stability assist, abs and overall balance of the car. Very surprised.

Doublebase - I used to have an 82 mile one way commute. 164 miles per day, on a Hyundai-Kia turd, I didn't care about miles on thoese cars. Now my commute is like 7 miles round trip! My mpg on the LS is really low, not worth stating. The car doesn't even get fully warmed. I don't drive it work much, I drive one of my other vehicles from the fleet.

The reason MPG's are all over the place with different distances is because our engines run on two cycles. the Atkinson cycle for highway cruising and the Otto Cycle for around town sprints. both are supposed to be optimized for MPG and performance based on speed and the nature of the route...
somebody please correct me if i'm wrong...

I can see why you don't commute with your car, those short trips are killer on a car like this. If the thing isn't even getting warmed up you're not even burning off the condensation in the engine and exhaust.

When I drive my Cummins Ram on cold mornings like this, the coolant gauge doesn't raise up before I'm at work. Unless I have plugged in the block heater prior. I bought a timer tonight that will automagically turn on the circuit / block heater about 2 hours before I fire it up. It's amazing how easy it cranks after using the block heater. At about 10 degrees or lower, it cranks right up but usually not on all cylinders for about 10 - 20 seconds depending on how cold it is.
In retrospect: I apologize ... I shouldn't sidetrack the thread like that.

Let's be honest..us 600 owners didn't buy it for gas savings lol. I get appx 4 or 5 mpg better around town but lose 6mpg or so at 75mph vs my old 460 rwd

2010 LS460 SWB with 100k miles, here in Texas (largely flat roads) got 25.6mpg over a mostly-highway-driving stint of 100 miles. Disappointed I'm not getting to the high 20s as some of you...
I've changed all air filters, just replaced plugs, did a Seafoam fuel treatment and fresh Lexus oil change.
Only thing I haven't done is MAF cleansing or throttle body cleaning...or, as roadfrog has pointed out, do the Toyota oil flush during my next oil change for a proper cleansing.

Just drove Las Vegas to San Jose two way trip around 500 miles each way, my average was a bit above 24 mpg, drove most of the time above 80 mph. I would say 20% of the trip covered with cruise control engaged.
