The details of the new LS in the link below mentions the "self-restoring coat " in the paint of the new LS model range in addition to other changes.

I'd say some of the biggest news is that:

- The remote controller used in the RX will not be imposed on owners of the 2010 LS. Whew!

- The voice recognition system (currently a true embarrassment to the Lexus name) is said to be upgraded. Let's hope it is upgraded sufficiently to recognize simple English words and commands like it's supposed to.

- The grille on the LS600h is an abomination. Why are so many car companies resorting to god-awfully ugly grilles?

- The HDD nav system is being applied across the line, meaning the lowly and ES and GS will get to toss out their old-style DVD systems. Yay!

- Self-repairing paint? It's about time. Nissan has had it for 2 years.

From what I've read, Infiniti's self-repair paint is more of a hassle than anything. It's a pain if you ever decided to buff down the car to fix minor scratches or shines it up. I know what you guys are thinking.... why would it have minor sracthes when it's self repair. Paint will get dull over time due to the elements etc.
I hope that Lexus will have a better product than Infiniti.

Has any one tried to apply this self-restoring clear coat to their car? If Nissan has had this for the last 2 years, I'm assuming this is available to any and all body shops, therefore, it could be applied to any car.

How does the local-yokal bodyshop repaint sections of the car if damaged. I generally hack up the front bumper within a year or two.

More like almost a decade on the high end Infiniti models. It's not that good, though. Hopefully the Lexus product is better.

*eeke* more clear coats to be careful about when detailing...
A lot of detailers refuse to touch Infinity's now (it just makes the job harder)
Some of the first Infinity's painted like this have hardened clears(no more self healing properties) I wonder how well the Lexus paint will hold.
