Default Official from Lexus Europe - No More Frozen Navigation Screen (no more NAVI lockout)

Sorry for the caps if this is yesterday's news, but here's what I stumbled upon at http://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/

click Check Coverage/FAQ and read this:

"Will Operation While Driving be enabled in my system?
Operation While Driving is available for updates to 03 and 05 navigation systems (PZ485-X03EU-08 & PZ485-X03RU-08), except for the TNS600 system of 03.
Please see below graphic to find out if your update will enable Operation While Driving."

They actually do listen!

Welcome to CL and thx for posting!

Is this for real--Lexus Europe dropping the NAVI lockout? That would be the answer to many a complaint from a large segment of owners, although for others this is not such a biggie.

I am still very surprised to see this, although Lexus has made changes in response to customer input in the past, this one seemed not likely...

They didn't have much of a choice, all European cars have unlocked navi systems. I bet they lost sales for that reason alone.

If they can give us existing owners a free upgrade so that I can watch movies from the NAV screen while the car is moving, then I would really be happy

I don't think they will allow video while driving. This is against the law in many states. So my Prestigious Society hack is still a better option. I get everything unlocked as if the car is stationary.

the nav lock out is just stupid to start with.. many european bmw even have in car TV and DVD that's enabled while in motion

but then again, it's also very important to note that European take driving a lot more seriously than US and my friend from germany told me it costs him couple thousands to get his driver license there.

nav lock out is another thing, but if american already can't drive straight while talking on the phone, the last thing i want is someone watching dvd or news

Just because they do this in Europe doesn't mean they'll do it here ... we are far more litigious than the Europeans, and Toyota/Lexus seem scared to death someone will sue them.

When the original post mentions "03 and 05 navigation systems", does that mean 2003 and 2005 systems???

OK, so there's a USB port under my LS460 steering wheel. Can I take advantage of that in any way? Like connecting it to a laptop and seeing the internal hard drive? Or mucking with internal settings? Not that I'd actually do that of course.

It's not that simple. First of all the USB connector is a specialized unit, unlike the ones we use on consumer PCs. Secondly, the interface is an industry standard that is available to automotive technicians - you can get it, but the price would set you back a bit as would the software that Toyota uses. All and all, it would be a significant outlay which you can acquire on the Internet but would not be cost efficient for a one-off user.

Looking at the website I believe the 03 and 05 refer to generation 03 and 05 as they have generation 00,01,03 and 05.
