Default sport shift.

have any you guys try to run or race with the sport shift? if so, at what RPM do we change the gear? ( I love that we have the 8 speed gear box)

You dont need to change the gear shift. It will automatically change if u manually set the gear box to S1. It will do the Automated shift untill your short of road.

if you set it to s1, then it will be in 1st gear forever

i have done my share of aggressive driving on the ls460l. it was aggressive, but i didn't wait until redline to shift. i shift a bit lower than that, at least in the situations i was in, it was "enough"

and in fact most of the time i just kept the car in D, or just flip it over to S so it stays in s6 (max). that's enough for me to get the power. once you start driving aggressively for 1-2 miles, the throttle becomes very sensitive

im pretty sure, though ive never tried, that when the car reaches beyond redline and you dont change gears, then the car will cut fuel from the engine so that you dont damage the car.

so, knowing that, it would probably be best to keep it in D and just let the car shift. If you floor it, the car will go all the way to redline and shift at the appropriate time.

that's correct, you will just hit rev limited and keep on bouncing off it.

there are advantage of the sport shift, but only when you know what you want to achieve

I wont lie... I have hit the rev limiter in my 00 RX300 many times... you just keep bouncing, fuel is never cut off. Then again I don't have 8 gears. or an extra 7 years of technology. haha. but I can tell you that I lose power at like 5900 when my redline is like 6200, so I hardly redline it anymore because there isn't much of a point to. my exhaust sounds the same at 6200 as it does at 5900, except for the bouncing

ooooooooooooh,
i'm always driving my car in manual sporty mode.
when you start on gear number one it will move automaticlly to the second gear and the same between all gears.

it's the same case on the ls460. you just bounce on the redline

then i guess middle east spec cars are different than jdm or usdm spec. if we put it in say s4, the car will shift from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4, but it won't go to 5 or 6 or 7 or 8. it will just bounce off the rev limiter of 4th gear

otherwise, it's pointless to have manual mode coz' it's not holding any gears

I very seldom use the manual mode in the LS. If anything I just flip the PWR switch on which gives me more than enough power to go around slow cars

try just floor it first. maybe you need power brake as well to build up the tq (but not too high rpm coz' you will loose traction). if you can't get the car to shift at redline, then sport shift

it's a lot of practice, and also road / weather condition
