Wind Noise in the LS460s/600s is not "normal." For the vast majority of the cars the wind noise can be fixed. Numerous reports in this forum and other forums indicate that the "Triangle Trim DIY Fix" is effective in all year models. As far as I know, the trim repair remains something that Lexus will not allow their dealers to do. The only explanation that I can offer is that they are shortsighted. For the 07s and early 08s (SWB only), the front door glass retrofit has been reported to be effective. While the case for the glass replacement is not as strong, because most of the time it is done before the trim repair (it's the old problem of two noise sources - when you fix only one it is difficult to distinguish any improvement), I assure you that it is effective and all 07 owners should strive to get that TSIB implemented into their cars. Lexus seems very willing and the dealers seem anxious to do that work - no one ever mentions any push back. Reports of improvement from any of the other wind noise TSIBs have been sparse to nil. I don't recall a single report of improvement from the "Crosswind Turbulence" TSIB and there were several reports from owners who had that done to their cars. Several forum members agree with me that it detracts from the car's appearance and I suggest that it be avoided. There are many reports of exceptionally quiet cars that don't have those ugly pieces around the windshield. Many of the dealers seemed reluctant to implement it and there are no recent mentions of it so perhaps it has fallen by the wayside.

Thanks!
all I can say is read through all 50+ pages of this thread. I took the time to learn all I could about this before talking to my dealer, I suggest you do the same. Very good information contained in this entire thread

Just picked up my car and I have to say, I am very impressed with the difference the new parts and lamisafe windows makes. My car is absolutely quiet now. The only downside, I need to get them retinted, but my tint guy will do it for free since I throw him a lot of business. I got a glance at the charges listed on the invoice and the parts alone came out to about $1,800!!! WOW! Another good thing to see on the invoice was N/C and $0.00 all over it! I don't have a scanner handy, but here is the list of parts they replaced.

PAD, FR DOOR OUTSIDE x 2
SPACER, FR FENDER, U x 2
GLASS SUB-ASSY, FR D x1 (Lamisafe)
GLASS SUB-ASSY, FR D x 1 (Lamisafe)
CLIP, ROOF DRIP SIDE x8
RIVET x 6
CLIP, WINDSHIELD OUT x2
COVER, FR DOOR SVC x2
COVER, FR DOOR FR LW x2
RUN, FR DOOR GLASS x1

Kudo's to Lexus for resolving this issue!

Default ml not the same after wind noise fix

I recently had the wind noise fix on a ls460l .
like many on this forum I had noise on the drivers window area .The fix was performed and I dont think there was any improvement iIm going to try the JM fix next .But my ml does not sound right any more the base seems to produce whinning rattles that i did not have before , be warned these wind noise fixes by lexus can cause other problems as the techs take apart the doors and like anything once its taken apart its hard to get it back to new .I regret the fix as I am still with the wind noise and rattles as well .I live far from the dealer so its such a hassle to go back and try fixing a rattle thats only evedent with certian base sounds .Before turning the music up would let me forget the wind noise now I have a rattle and no comfort zone !!!

Well... here is my story. I bought a 2007 CPO LS460 just a month and a half ago(09/10/212). I didn't really research the car since I was going from a 2004 LS430. It drove nice on the test drive, and I guess I was to impressed with the ML stereo to hear the wind noise. Well, it's definitely there. I took it to the dealer(not selling dealer) for a minor unrelated mechanical issue(starter switch) and brought up the wind noise problem. My service adviser said I could pay for the repairs myself(I believe he said $1,600) or they could run it through Lexus corporate. They did, and 2 weeks later came back saying they wouldn't help. So I waited a few days, and called Lexus customer care. The phone attendant took my information down, and promised a call back. I got a call last night back from them, saying they will honor and pay for the repairs. I called my service adviser this morning, asked him what all they will do and it is the whole repair including glass and what-not. My appointment is scheduled for Tuesday. I'll report when I get the car back if anyone is interested, and let ya know how it went.

Sound like you are getting the glass retrofit - good for you. If you have the extreme wind noise it is probably due to the trim defect. When they replace the glass they often replace the trim too and most people assume that all of the improvement is due to the glass. However most of the improvement comes from replacing the trim. Sometimes they don't replace the trim and there is no apparent improvement from the glass and other times the replacement trim doesn't stick any better than the factory trim and there is no improvement. And sometimes the replacement trim sticks for a while and then separates and the wind noise returns. So, if everything is perfect when your dealer is finished - case closed, you will have a heavenly ride. If you still have wind noise or the repair is not durable then look into the DIY repair.

If they offer to put those pieces on the sides of the windshield, you should decline that.

Instructions for the DIY repair are here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...noise-fix.html

Default Motorweek TV review

Not sure if anyone caught this weeks episode of Motorweek, but they did a review of the 2013 LS. To me the most interesting part of the entire show was that they've redesigned the black trim piece in order to quiet "wind noise". Looks like someone at Lexus finally listened to Jim!!
For what it's worth, I can't stand the look of the new "face of Lexus". Especially on the LS. The black crossbar in the front bumper is hideous!! I do like the interior changes though. Oh well, I still love my 2012.

Hello KB,

Thanks for your input. I have not seen the Motorweek article but I have seen reports from other sources that a vortex generator has been added to the triangle trim. These vortex generators are appearing on many cars and they may slightly improve the lateral stability at high speed but will not help the detached trim problem that affected many of the early LS460s and LS600.

Interesting. I was speaking to a Lexus corporate person at the LS debut here in Atlanta and told him I planned on buying the newer vortex triangle just to see if it works.. part looks like same exact size

Replacing single pane windows with the double pane Lamisafe windows..if it doesn't say Lamisafe in the bottom corner of glass..it is single pane

They only do front two windows..the LWB models have them on all 4..my 600 has them on all windows.. I think it helps a lot compared to my 460 I had
