I have a SWB. When I close the glove box, it sits flush and there is no slop or give.

The rear glove box on the other hand does, and it rattles when closed and left extended in the arm rest position. I have filled the gap with a 3/16" stack of small circular felt pads, the kind you buy at Dollar stores. It appears the conical rubber pad supplied by Lexus is not thick enough to take up the closure gap.

These are interior flaws that are showing up on this year's edition, and they may be corrected on later ones. Unlike past Japanese carefully assembled vehicles, there are misaligned interior panel that show up where the lacquered wood surfaces meet. Guess they rushed production a little, and it shows.

My glove box has the gap that you are talking about and it does have the give... From what I can tell it is designed that way. It has the right fit and finish and is set right for what I can tell. Just a design situation. I had a complaint in the beginning because at certain speeds and roads it would move a little and cause a small rattle noise.

That noise and situation has since gone away over the 12,000 miles that I have owned the car.

Interesting feedback here. So, it seems like this is 'normal'. It does seem odd that there is no click when you close it. When I go in for the personalized settings, I will have this checked out to see if it's within specs.

Good to hear on the correct glove box replacement.

BTW, perhaps this is related to the 'mysterious compartment' in the prior glove box parts? This international version LS 460 has a DVD compartment in the glove box:
