Default Let's Start Money Pool For First to Hack DVD on 07 LS460

Lets start a money pool for the first to hack the DVD and the buttons that gray out while moving on the 2007 Lexus LS460. I would like to the ability to watch DVD while driving and to access the phone and music menus while driving. I would definitely donate to it.

Welcome to CL, lwilliams!!!

Yeah, there should be an 'X-Prize' for whoever can find out how to override the LS 460 motion block, short of cutting wires.

What does "type in 42" mean. Obviously you are joking but I am serious about the X-Prize idea..

I would like to the ability to watch DVD while driving and to access the phone and music menus while driving.

Please let us know the routes and the times you will be on them.

Years ago my fear when I was on my Harley was drunk drivers, now its the "multi-tasking" drivers. If I did find out how to hack the system, you don't have enough money to get from me.

Well I am a Harley Rider also. That's one of my hobbies and I fear drunk drivers and drunk Harley riders also but I really don't think I personally would be doing a lot of the DVD watching as my wife would as a passenger, but it sure would be nice to access all the features of the phone and music menus while the car is moving as I was able to in my 2007 BMW 550I that I just traded for the Lexus. The BMW let me access everything on the menu using the funky I-Drive. I used it over 6 months and no problems there thankfully and that's all I am asking Lexus or anyone to let us do with their vehicles.

I'll be going back to an LS after a BMW too (2006 330xi) and I'd be curious about your reasons for doing so.

My reasons include: (1) The 330 is just too small, noisy, and rough driving, (2) the i-Drive is too awkward and distracting in use, and (3) I've already had the car in the shop 3 times, once I had to pay for....

As I'd mentioned in a previous post, handling at the expense of ride quality and quiet is not a good trade. I ride 100% of the time. I test the limits of handling characteristics 0%. Emergency handling is excellent and certainly close enough to be equal for an non-professional driver like me.

It is really difficult to compare a 3 series to an LS. If you were coming from the 7 it would be a more appropriate comparison.

Yeah it's a combination of things. Of course for handling I would have stayed with the BMW 550I but we travel quite a lot and the Lexus LS460 is far superior in ride and comfort. Also as you said the I-Drive system is a lot of trouble. I didn't like the fact that there is no initial setting on it at start up on BMW. When I started the car I always had to select whether I wanted radio, dvd, sat and it takes a few spins and clicks to get there each time you start. My BMW was developing some noises after a few months and the BMW dealer is very slow to get it in the shop. I am very please with the new Lexus so far.

I had a 2007 BMW 750I, among many other cars, just before the 550I and it did drive a lot better than the 550I and the ride quality was a lot better but the seats are just not as comfortable and the new '07 Lexus 460. It's a little harder to find differences in the new 750I and the new LS460 except for the seat comfort in the Lexus and the annoying I-Drive in the BMW. I really like the sound system along with the Hard Drive recording of CD's in my new Lexus also.

I love the 7. My plan is to buy the F01 2009 7 to give my 460 some company You really can't go wrong with a 7/LS/S/A8 IMHO, it just comes down to preferences.

We are definitely off topic BTW

Everything is a hobby. Everything we do with our idle time is a hobby, a choice or a fun time.
