Sure it does. Buyers of the executive package want a cushy ride. There is no doubt the 19's provide more road feel feedback than the 18's.

My 400 hp 3700 pound GTO can do 0-60 in 4.6. Car & Driver tested a loaded 460L that weighed a hefty 4700 lbs and got 0-60 in 6.2. My guess is the hybrid has to weigh even more so 438 hp won't be enough to get it under low 5's is my bet, even in spite of the AWD and instant torque assist of the electric motors.

You want 0-60 in the 4's? Go for the IS-F

Incredible car but anyone paying over 100K should be able to get EXACTLY the combination of features they want. Lexus still applies the mass production mentality even to their highest level vehicle. Most customers will probably get to pick from one or two colors and one or two options probably having to take an option they don't want to get one they do want. It's just lame.

The full test of the 08 LS 600hL is now at Edmunds/insideline. The review was mostly positive but ultimately it did not think the price difference over the 460L is justified. Reading it made me glad I have the 460L Touring and quashed any thoughts I had of changing to the 600h.

I wonder, what they think of the S 600 price then, from a justification standpoint, at 140k to start. The S550 starts at 85k. That is a 55k difference. 55k difference.

And in Europe, you can get a S 350. Yes, a V-6 S-class and diesals, with a 65k starting price.

So the S600 literally doubles the price of the entry level S-class. Clearly, people think the price is right as the cars sell.

I wonder what EDMUNDS thinks though.

That's probably because your sample size is wrong.
Most folks who buy expensive cars do NOT go aftermarket. For every highline automobile you see at a show with aftermarket, non-oem spec wheels, there are ten in garages with oem spec wheels.

I'm afraid about this. BMW offers the Individual Program to customize cars (think Yatch style wood in the 7 series with beautiful sea-blue paint) and Mercedes has their AMG Special Wishes division and designo editions to make special limited production exotically colored versions of their line-up.

If Lexus keeps the uniform 'built-by-robots' feeling in their order process, they'll never have the chance of being able to be called an automobile to be loved. It's just a throw away object, an appliance Then the F division will fail at bringing a real M3 competitor to the table. BMW will take over the world and the universe will converge to non-existence.

I wonder, what they think of the S 600 price then, from a justification standpoint, at 140k to start. The S550 starts at 85k. That is a 55k difference. 55k difference.
Yeah, but the S600 comes with mountains worth of power extra, a considerable amount of features as stock, higher quality interior amenities, and subtle exterior accents

Lexus is playing with the big boys now by calling their new LS an LS600 while it doesn't boast class-leading features like the LS430 did. But then again, the original LS400 didn't either, it was just a cheaper, more detached copy and it did wild success creating a realignment. Is the LS600lh going to do the same and spark the next wave of innovation?
