Oil Change on a LS460/LS460L..
Ok.. I didn't take pictures.. but this car is pretty simple.
The oil filter is on the driver side.. if you look at the underbody of the car there's a little door/flap that you remove one screw to open. In there you'll see the filter. You do NOT need a special to get the filter off.
They do have a tool @ lexus.sst.com that fits the filter perfectly. I might get that part soon, seems like it would be a bit easier with it. The tool is $30!
The oil drag plug is the same as any other car. Towards the passenger side of the car. I put in 9 quarts of Mobil1 5w-20 (5 quart jug is $24 @ wal-mart)
The manual says 9.1 quarts, but you can bet you probably didn't get the last .1 quart out of the engine anyways.
Oil filter Part # is 04152-38010 . I think this filter is specific to the LS460 ONLY. So IS250/350/ES350/RX350/ SHOULD NOT FIT..
The filter is $8 from irontoad.com or $14.50 @ your local dealership.
IT MIGHT BE IN MY HEAD, BUT the car is MUCH quieter after the oil change.
this might be because, 1. the lexus dealer changed the oil with regular 5w-30 oil @ the 5000 miles service. Our manual recommends 5w-20, 0w-20.. Well Toyota only has Synthetic 0w-20 (not sure about 5w-20).. So put 2 and 2 together, our cars seem like it "needs" synthetic oil. If you disagree oh well.
Also.. Found out our car has TWO air filters.. the part # is 17801-38010 .. buy TWO @ a time. It's $23 @ irontoad.com and $38 at the dealership. EACH.
For those of you that don't change the oil yourself, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR DEALERSHIP USE 5w-20 in warm areas, and 0w-20 in cold areas~.. why do I say this? because there's a TSB out for IS350 to NOT use 5w-30, i guess it messes with those engines, so I am guessing the same thing COULD apply to the LS460.
That is all..

i figure if it snows where you live 0w-20 is the way to go..
but I live in SoCal where it's pretty "warm" temperature year around, so i went with 5w-20..
also.. UPDATE: that smoother sounding thing was all in my head.. ha

Good tips. Yeah, it would sound quieter and smoother after the oil change, just as it seems to carve the wind better after a wax job. Must have something to do with elbow grease...

Oil filter location
I can't seem to find the oil filter. I have looked at the underbody of the car (drivers side), but I cannot find the little door/flap that you describe. Can anyone help me?
