My '03 LS430 was TERRIBLE on voice recognition. I would guess that less than 10% of the time it understood what I was saying.

The BMW I'm currently driving is terrific on voice recognition.

How is the voice recognition on the LS460 compared to the LS430?

Helmar, apparently they improved it significantly in the '04 430, because I had very few problems with mine. The biggest issue was remembering the commands. Inevitably, if I chose the wrong word, it would make a bad guess and change the POI icons on the screen. I would prefer a simple "command not recognized" and no action.

On the 460, I have only had problems with one word, so far. About half the time, it interprets "dial by number" as "dial by name". Close, but no cigar, and considering that is one of the biggest feature additions to the old system, in my mind, I have been very disappointed by that.

So to answer your question, it's a little better, but still not great.

I just got rid of my 745i BMW and now have the LS 460. I have found no problems with it recognizing either my recorded tags, dial by name or number commands and it has done a terrific job of recognizing the numbers (even symbols such as *) when I dial by number. So, I can't say the voice recognition part is bad from my experience. The BMW system voice command system was more user-friendly, however.
