Styling 100%! I know the Avalon always scored well in a lot of categories from Vehicle Reviewers, but(I know I am treading dangerous water here) holy cow was it an old persons car! Such a huge boat that had no styling to it. My Grandparents owned a 2004 and I loved it, when the resigned came around in 05 I knew I would never be caught dead in one. I was very glad to see the redesigned 2013 because I believed it breathed life into a mechanically great vehicle with beautiful styling. I actually almost purchased a used 13 or 14 Avalon White with the Almond interior but I decided I wanted a V8 instead.

Looks like we have a pretty sizable number of responses (N=70). The distribution is bi-modal with a median age around 45. Does this make the LS an "old man's car"? It is great to see that many owners are below 40! Does it disprove the hypothesis?

Problem is we don't have any controls to compare with. Is there a true old man's car? A Buick Le Sabre or the old Avalon? And a true young man's car? A 3-series or an IS? One has to look at the distribution of owner ages for such vehicles (and median ages) before one can draw any conclusions for our car. I know I am getting a bit nerdy, but since the OP asked a perfectly valid question, it deserves a serious answer .

Comotiger you bring up a great point. I hate not having the literature as proof, but when I was selling cars here at the Toyota Dealership (2012-2013) we were given literature on the new Avalons. It literally said the median target group of the old Avalon was 60+. The new target was 35-45 with the new Avalon! Sure enough we had an influx of older customers who did not like the new Avalon at all and vice versa with the younger demographic.

I think one thing to keep in mind is that the younger owners tend to hang out on here lol.

Currently 27, got the car 2 yrs ago, sold my LS430 and X5 for it. Wanted something comfy like the 430 but with AWD, so naturally it brought me here. I was tempted by a 750/S550, but was didn't want to put up with the repairs (as well as a time issue). I started my residency 2 yrs ago when I got the 460 so aside from a mediocre income (those docs on here will attest lol), work hours are very variable. 460 has been rock solid and a joy to drive esp in this horrendous weather. I made sure to get an apt with an attached garage so she always has somewhere warm(ish) to sleep!

This. But then again, what age group is considered "old".
I will say that compared to the IS/3-Series/A4, the owners of the LS are on average going to be older.

Well, younger crowds typically trend towards social media these days. I've been active on another similar board for over a decade and it's been dying a slow death over the past 3-5 years. The General Discussion and Debate area is the only one that see regular daily traffic and it's mostly just a bunch of us that have been talking to each other over the interwebs forever.

It's telling that the largest responses to this poll are in the 31-40 bracket, we're a group that grew up on forums like this one so it just comes natural. Do this same poll year over year and I bet you see the majority move right along with it, until message boards eventually die altogether.

31 bought my first Lexus at 20 (GS300) from a new Explorer. Then went to a 528i, S500, Acura TL Type-S , and now back to a GS300 and a LS460L. Long story short...I should have stayed with Lexus lol. Hands down my favorite from the cars i've owned.

37. Bought my first LS at age 27 (1996 LS400, still miss parts of that car). Bought 2004 LS430 at 29 and drove it almost 9 years to 248k miles. Bought my 2010 460L 2 weeks ago and hope to keep it 3-5 years.

i bought my Ls in my late 30s but I've loved Lexus since my mid to late 20s..(bye bye bimmers) that said I think the initial price would deter most younger drivers from owning an Ls (at least it did for me at 1st) 2nd I always had that "well would I have to look forward too when I get older" mentality. but when I saw the VIP Auto Salon Ls460 build... I WAS SOLD... (u can see a lot of their design in my car but obviously as newer parts came out the vision changed ..... slightly) So far the newest Ls hasn't won me over yet.. (too daddy wagon for my tastes) plus I own mine free an clear so there's no rush to have another payment just yet..

All the good cars are usually considered "old men" cars, mainly because its usually only the older gents that can afford them

Around here you don't see people under 90 driving Bentleys or Rolls Royce's, I'm surprised they don't come stock equipped with oxygen tanks, but I hope I'm fortunate enough to own one someday while I'm still young enough to look cool in it.

63 years old..... Purchased the LS for my wife (60 years old) who wanted a "safe dependable luxury car with a smooth ride" and left it up to me so I purchased a CPO LS for her and I she loves it. I always buy a well maintained low mileage pre-owned car and keep them until they start to nickel and dime me. I am meticulous about maintaining my cars and do not have a hard time selling them........ My son drove a 1997 ES 300 (275k. Miles) all through college and although it was a "beater" the guy who purchased it gave it to his daughter who loves the car and it is still going strong as of this year.
Here is my "fleet" for two drivers:
2012 Lexus LS..... Luxury and dependable. (Wife's daily driver)
2008 Dodge Charger SRT..... American muscle with a stiff ride. (Daily Driver)
2010 Chevy Silverado...... V8 powerful truck. (Everybody needs a pick up don't they?)
2005 Ford Explorer...... Winter beater and grocery getter. (Sits parked 75% of the time since we purchased the LS)

30. This LS would be my tenth vehicle I've ever owned.
Certainly the most different as I've owned mainly sports cars prior to this, and still have one to this day among motorcycles that I love to ride.
I use to own a 02 IS300 (black onyx on black - 5 speed, single turbo). It feels great to be back in the Lexus family after selling my CT 200h not long ago.
I love it.
