Disable auto trunk??
Is it possible to turn off the motorized opening of the trunk on a 460 (more specifically, I have a 2010 460L). I tend to turn things like this off as it's a motor that I'd rather not have to replace down the road and I'm fine having to manually open the trunk instead of having a motor do it. I read the manual and didn't see if it could be done, then searched the forum and didn't see this exact topic listed.
Not sure if it matters, but I'd be fine with disabling the motorized trunk altogether (to include motorized closing of the trunk as well). Thanks!

My question would be why? You bought a car that comes with these features. Use them. I've never heard of anyone having issues related to the motor in the trunk. Use the features of your car. You deserve it.

I guess I'm a little apprehensive of not wearing out a motor un-necessarily when I don't really care about the particular feature being motorized.

I don't know the answer but I turned off my auto steering wheel retraction mode when I got my LS400 and also had a dealer turn off that option for my LS460. The auto trunk is kind of silly but I love it in a car with a tailgate.

I would think that even if the motor wears out, that you'll still be able to use the trunk manually. That was the case with my BMW 7 series when it's motor stopped working (one of the many things that stopped working on that POS). That system was hydraulic.

The auto trunk can't be disable and its part of the conveniences that comes with the LS.

Lets put it this way, has anybody ever posted here about their auto-trunk motor going bad?

To the OP, I really wouldn't worry about the motor burning out. Of course, if you really wanted to turn it off, perhaps there is a fuse that you could pull to inactivate the motor. But I wonder if you would then also prevent the trunk latch from releasing.

I believe the glove box switch is to disable the trunk release, so that you can lock your family jewels in the trunk while using the valet service. The motor is not affected, only the trunk release. I could be wrong...

Removing a fuse will likely effect other functions in your car. I think you're stuck with the remote possibility that you may face a trunk motor issue. But at least it wont leave you stranded. On a side note, is the LS system hydraulic my BMW was? I wish my LS had this option. Too bad we couldn't magically exchange our systems!

Nope, you're right. The "cancel" switch in the glove box makes it so you can't open the trunk at all. I read about that in the manual which is what made me post here hoping I had missed a way to disable the motor (maybe using Carista, etc). Thanks all,
