Talking Glad I got AWD

We don't normally get a lot of snow in the Seattle area and I actually contemplated getting RWD for more HP because we have another AWD van but I'm glad I didn't..

Yes it's from today. We got about 2 inches yesterday and probably 4 today. It isn't snowing at my office but my wife says we have 4-6 at our house (we are 500 feet above sea level so we get a bit more snow sometimes).

My security camera only captures a few seconds (that is how it is set up for daytime) but I assure you I slid down that hill lol!

All good buddy I come from a more raucous group of people where we expect this kind of thing on the norm lol (toyota 4runner forum) I don't know if I would want to be slipping and sliding in $50k of vehicle!

Nice! I deliberated on the AWD for a couple of months but eventually went for the RWD as we only very rareley get snow here in NC and I have a 4WD SUV also.

Glad you're diggin' your AWD. I was in your area yesterday when the snow started. I live just a couple of hours from you north of the border and this is the worst Winter for snow that we've ever had. I think we've had a total of 2 feet-3 feet so far this Winter. Just when it melts away, it comes back, lol. FWIW, I do NOT have AWD, but do have winter tires all around, and my car has never been stuck or out of control yet. It is a beast in the snow.

Yeah the AWD is great in the snow. Lexus uses an unusually robust AWD system for a sedan, more similar to the type of system you see in an SUV or truck. Mine is excellent in the snow. My RWD LS400 and LS430 were horrible lol

Default High five Roadfrog

High five Roadfrog...I'm in Boston with a RWD LS460 with snow tires and I live up a giant hill. With her snow shoes on she is unstoppable!

Nice. Yeah, I've owned my LS for 3 winters now and this was the first winter where I actually got to see how my car would perform. And it's probably the last winter snowfall we'll see before I trade-in. We just don't get Winters like this normally. Yes, I'm in Canada, but on the very mild West Coast where we get mild temps and lots of rain. With my snow tires and the "snow" mode button in use, the car will plow thru anything. There were times where a giant bank of freshly plowed snow would appear in the morning, taunting me. But she just plowed thru it like it wasn't there.....though the scraping sounds in front and under the car were a little disconcerting!

I find this strange because I live in the Chicagoland area and so far this winter, we've received between 17"-20" of snow, which is incredibly minimal for us in this region.
It hasn't even been that cold really.

This is my 3rd winter in my RWD LS and I have to say that even with A/S tires (I have a set of snow tires) the car is very capable.

Im not sure what the weight difference is between a SWB and LWB (im sure its minimal) but I wonder if the extra weight affords a little more driving assurance with a LWB. With that said though, I am very aware that the difference maker in traversing through snow is winter tires, period.

The only time its been scary is on a road trip, driving along the highway and hitting ice on a bridge crossing, and feeling like the car had no contact with the road. Talk about heart in the throat!

Put a set of Blizzaks on our leased ES300h by convincing my wife that the 4 year/60k term
would entail buying a set of tires anyway. CRowe14 is correct, we have not had anywhere
near the historic normal amount of snow in Chicago. Oh well, at least they ride quietly!

Couldn't agree with you more, and of course, better safe than stuck or in an accident!

You could always come down to sunny Florida and avoid snow altogether. That way you can get a RWD and the extra 20 horsepower
