Lol, in an LS that just doesn't happen. My in-laws live 750 miles away in Rochester, NY. We always drive the LS....and stop once for 5 minutes for gas and bathroom break outside of Cleveland. Literally, straight through with one stop for 5 minutes. Arrive as fresh-feeling as we were when we left Knoxville. Not exaggerating. These cars are the king of comfort for long trips.

I wanted to ask, with all the driving you do, if you run into issues with the tinted windshield (in terms of law enforcement).

I would imagine most states prohibit tinting the windshield... and law enforcement may be a concern.

I've seen a few cars with that in urban areas, it's usually either really low end cars or REALLY high end cars (i.e. the folks driving the really high end cars aren't concerned too much about fines and such...)

Many states, including NY, have inspection stickers on the windshield which make tinting it an even more risky proposition.

OP has nothing to worry about as long as his car isn't registered in one of said states. I drove my LS with 5% limo tint all around for 2 years when I lived in Los Angeles and never had a problem. I never switched my TN plates over to CA. With CA plates I probably would have been pulled over just for the tint. The reason I know this (or can assume) is because they pull CA cars over left and right for no front plates, whereas I never had one issue (TN doesn't require front plates).

Yep. After graduating college, I lived in Charleston, SC for 10 years and then Siesta Key, FL for 10 years and actually kept my TN plates the entire time. Probably was pretty stupid, but quite common in Florida with all of the snowbirds leaving Florida when the uber obsessive Summer comes to pass.

In my case, I actually had to get a lighter tint than if I had my car registered in Florida (FL allows 20%, TN 30 or 35% cannot remember) as I often drove back to Knoxville and while in Florida you looked odd if you did not have tinted windows, in Tennessee it drew suspicion amongst the LEOs.

Also, love that I purchased my 460 in NC as they do not have a front plate either. My last cars had come from states that required them and I hated it, Once, with my LX, I had them fill in the holes and repaint the front bumper.

Yeah screw it, lol. Our time out there in CA wasn't permanent which we knew from the start, and plus I just refused to pay one more penny to that state. I couldn't take it with all the taxes. If I had a wreck, though, I'd have some explaining to do to the cops and insurance. There, you had to switch your plates over WITHIN TEN DAYS.

Also, I've never had one problem with cops here in Knox for tint and literally every car I've ever had was 5% tint. It never even crosses my radar (or cops'). I assume from your post that you have? I know several places here in town that will do great illegal tint jobs if you're interested.

I think it is fair to say that we both live in West Knoxville... (no offense to denizens of all other parts of the Greater Knoxville Metropolitan Area)
I have given it some serious thought as black/black looks great with window film and in Florida I had Huper Optik which I learned about from the Porsche guys when researching what was the best tint in the world. Need to look more closely. What is for certain is when late Spring comes, I am going to be wanting it bad!

Would love to do that again, but I just so happened to get friendly with the distributor in Florida when I lived there and got it done for like $300. Now, I hear it is around $600.
I am pretty sure the 460 has like a 50% Llumar on it. My UL430 had Llumar as well.

My current project is to get the dent fixed to the right of the "L" logo on the trunk. Really does not look that bad, but when everything else looks amazing, it is driving me crazy.
I am blessed enough that I own my car outright so I have no car payments so at least I can more easily turn my dreams into reality on projects like this.

Yes. #WestKnox4Life, lol. I'm sure it won't be long until I spot your car out on the road.

This place uses Llumar, warranties their work for life (I've never had to take them up on it), and will only charge about $175. They are professional and do great work. Like I said, I've never had to go back. They have done every single one of my cars since I was 16. PM me if you want more info. They do 5%, 15%, and 35% (35 is the legal limit for TN).

Well done. Really makes me sad that seemingly so much of highway patrol (state and county) seems/is about revenue. Especially in the less developed parts of the South.

Best case in point has got to be Georgia where South of Atlanta, enforcement and the price of speeding tickets is nothing short of extortion. I attended UGA and remember as a freshmen going to a KA rush event held at Sea Island (St. Simons Island) and getting a $400 ticket for going 80 and this was in the mid 90's!
I've paid my share of tickets and lawyer fees to keep my licsence spotless all these years. The radar setup is a fantastic setup. I got shot with laser yesterday and didn't get pulled over. I was in the left lane with others but he couldn't read me. It was in NC on interstate 40. I'll post video of it soon.

My last car, I had no issues for years and then one year they got all over me so I went legal again. This car isn't lowered with wheels and so being a stock car keeps me flying under the radar. Both our cars are tinted the same without issues. The other guy is correct. Cops in other states can't give you tint tickets when registered in another state.

i got it for fair market value. No accidents, one owner, dealer maintained, garage kept car and it's a RWD L body so it's a rare one. I paid 48,000. Tax tag and title put me at 50k and I put the tint on it, I had a full clear bra put on including the lights, mirrors etc and also added the radar setup so I'm up there all in.

.
It's worth every penny. This body style is holding its value and will continue until the new one comes out. I was glad to pay for it because it was in my state all it's life. NC is a salt free snow state. When it does snow here, people don't drive.

40 in North Cackliacky is brutal. The worse in my experience is 40 between Asheville and the Tennessee border. Once got pulled going 99 right at Maggie Valley. I thought I was going to jail when he asked me to get out of the car. Instead, he asked me to sit in the front of the cruiser and we literally shot the proverbial... for about 30 mins. Mostly he could not believe a 1993 Isuzu Trooper could attain those speeds. (this was in college) That said, 40 around Greensboro is no walk in the park. At least neither of us live in Ohio or Michigan which by most accounts (and my experience) take the cake.

Florida is rough too. Worse, the FHP are mighty creative employing a coterie of fascinating undercover revenue enforcement machines. Harleys (not standard police, but with all the jewelry that ends up costing more than the actual bike), minivans, and lord knows what else.

So I'm guessing your mileage total for the week was at least 1,100 miles...and I thought I was loading on the miles with 550. I'm glad there's someone else on the LS460 forum that drives a bunch, makes it fun.

Mmade, where did you put your jack stands? If I recall, on your GS, you placed them under the big bolt connecting the front lower control arm to chassis body right?

Lexus couldn't make it any easier on where to place them. The car has the arrows under the chassis...
