2008 LS460L Windshield chip
Driving on I-95 and a stone chipped my 2008 LS460L windshield, it is about the size of a quarter and the chip is located near the driver side right center below the rear view mirror.
My insurance company gave me Safelite and there is no out of pocket cost to me whatsoever for the repair or replacement of the windshield.
I am in the Ft. Lauderdale area (NW Broward County), are there any suggestions on whether to repair it or replace the windshield and are there any recommendations on who should I have do the repair or replacement.
The car is in excellent condition with 62k miles and I will probably keep the care until the 2018 LS comes out, then maybe give the car to one of my kids.
As always thank you in advance for your reply back.

Earlier this year I had a small rock chip in the center of the windshield, a few inches from the bottom. It is about the size of a nickel and mostly out of my sight line. Safelite did the repair and ever since there's been no additional cracking whatsoever. If the chip obstructed my view, I would have gotten the entire windshield replaced, but I would have the work done at a Lexus dealership to ensure correct installation and the use of OEM glass. There are a few threads on CL that discuss folks getting non-OEM replacement windshields and later having issues with rain-sensing wiper functionality, etc.. If your chip obstructs your view in any meaningful way, you may want to go for the full claim and be done with it. Hope this helps and good luck with the car!

If the insurance provider has no out of pocket expenses to you, its a no-brainer.....replace it. Otherwise, a repair is fine. You won't notice it. As for replacement, most of the after market glass is good. I've had Lexus glass and Safelite glass, and both are good. My sensors all worked fine afterwards with both. Just make sure that the glass is acoustic. This is important for noise. Any glass shop I've dealt with had a lifetime warranty and this too is important.

I had a repair done to my van and it looks terrible, so my vote would be for replacement.
Safelite won't use OEM glass FYI, you need to put it in as a comprehensive claim to get the, to do OEM glass.

I got a rock chip right in my line of sight on my 2008 LS600hL. I chose to replace the windshield (mostly on my dime, since I have a $1000 deductible). I used my local Lexus dealer and OEM Lexus glass. Total cost was around $1250. My old windshield was pretty pitted, with lots of little chips and scratches. My new one is perfect, and I'll try to keep it that way. I really appreciate a crystal clear windshield when I'm driving to work into the rising sun in the morning.
