DarKnight - I'll try to get one this evening. I didn't drive the car today. But, correct me if I'm wrong, you're wanting to see what this looks like installed in with a V1?

I'm thinking to do this mod with an Escort. I just want to get an idea of how it looks placed differently on the windshield.

Default What do You mean by prying from the end closest to you ?

After removing overhead cover, prying from the end closest to you, it will snap the two plastic caps free from the brackets.
Is it from the rear of the cover or on the side, sitting in the drivers side...I have tried both options, but the covers does not come off..and I don't dare to use brute force

Arvid - Someone else wrote that as I remember. But I've had to do this dozens of times because since adding my power connection for my phone (tied in with my V1 power), I'm having disconnection problems. So I have to go back up in there and jimmy with it (annoying). Let me describe the console removal in more detail. Some of this you may be doing already, but I'm going to start with how I do this, in order to be clear.
-
  • Seems like it is behind the sunglasses holder, there are 2 screws, behind covers. I just pry my fingernail behind the covers and flip them down. The covers hang on a little lanyard so they don't get lost.
  • Remove the screws, be ready to catch them. Put them somewhere you will find them again (without frustration).
  • Push the console toward the front (front bumper direction) of the car. Yours may not move at all, or else it will move very little.
  • Work your fingers back behind (on top of, meaning between the console and headliner) of the rear most lip (meaning the lip facing the back seat) of the console.
  • While pulling down, also push very slightly forward. Pull down from 2 places, not necessarily at the corners of the console, but somewhat near the corners, while barely pushing it toward the front of the vehicle. It won't move forward, it has shapes that prevent it from moving forward. But this forward pressure holds the clips in alignment with their holes, so the clips will come straight out of their holes. I gently pull down, and add slightly greater "pulses" of pulling down. And I gradually increase the force of my pulses until POP, it comes out. It doesn't sound healthy, but in reality, this console and its fastening design are very robust. Mine has been out like 20 times, and the clips are still in great shape.
  • Once the clips pop loose, its not really "attached" any longer, however there are wire harnesses attached on the left and right side of the console, so it will not fall out at this point.
  • Pull downward, and now slightly pull the console toward the rear of the car until the wire harnesses clear, and are below the headliner. You may notice there are "reliefs" in the headliner purposely added to help facilitate the wire harnesses movement past the headliner, while clipped into the console.
  • Disconnect the wire harnesses. To me, this is the hardest part because my fingers are not small, and the little clips that hold the connectors together kind of hurt my fingertips (Nancy).
  • Hold the console while disconnecting whichever harness is last. Because it could fall out.
  • Pull the console toward the rear of the car and down and the console should come right out easily. At this time, you will see that the front hidden side (when installed) of the console is sort of just a wedge attachment to the headliner and/or roof brackets. The rear hidden (when installed) part of the console has 2 clips. If it weren't for the connecting / disconnecting of the wire harnesses, the console could be clipped in or out in 2 seconds. The 2 screws hold the console in it's final design position so that the clips do not have to hold a load (which is how this console is so robust).
  • Just reverse this to reinstall.

Thanks for the great write-up.
As advertised!!
Start to finish I was complete in 25 minutes.
Quite possibly to easiest mod I've seen throughout the forum.
I could really use a write-up for dodging deer.
