Exclamation Service History - Would This Bother YOU?

Hello,

As some of you know, I am currently shopping for an LS460.

While checking the service history on a specific LS460 (via LexusDriver), I found the following notations, and I'm wondering how concerned I should be:

"BASIC BUMPER REPAIR BASIC BUMPER REPAIR REAR WITH LABOR"

"BUMPER BLENDS BUMPER BLENDS LEFT FRONT WITH LABOR"

"FULL REAR BUMPER COVER, LEFT FRONT BUMPER BLEND WITH REPAIR - COMPLETED"

All these notations were entered seemingly AFTER the car was turned into the dealer, but BEFORE the car was posted for sale, and the CarFax currently looks clean.

But, we all know that CarFax can have a 3 - 6 month lag period in reporting.

I'm just a bit concerned that this car was in a recent accident, and the dealer could be trying to get rid of it before any accident shows up on CarFax.

Maybe I just need a reality check, am I over-analyzing?

Please let me know your thoughts.

Any insight would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Probably just cleaning up any dings or scratches from bumpers. Is it CPO?

Bumpers are routinely touched up and/or repainted at dealers. I'd take a close look to make sure the work was done right but I wouldn't be too alarmed. When I was searching for my LS, I saw a lot of examples with paintless dent removals which could be anything. So as long as the car looks good and the work was quality, I wouldn't sweat it.

Well if the repair was only $400 it probably wasn't an accident, or certainly not a serious one. I agree with sdwtchlvr.

If airbags were deployed or frame adjustment was anything that came up that would be different. Some dealers go the extra mile and replace anything that looks bad or slightly damaged. Only 400 of parts is nothing to worry about with Lexus.

I agree. It's most likely just taking our minor scrapes and something like that. They aren't going to put the car for sale with some scratches all over the bumper or a minor dent when they can fix it themselves for next to nothing.

Thanks for everyone's feedback.

Unfortunately, the car was sold before I had a chance to put a deposit on it.

It was not a CPO car, but it was at a Lexus dealer and it was a low-mileage car (it would certainly qualify for CPO based on mileage)...

I did think it was a bit suspicious that they didn't CPO it and ask for $5,000 more... there must have been some underlying issues which is why they may not have wanted to take the "risk" of CPO'ing it. In any case, it's gone now.

Anyway, thanks for all the feedback. Good to know for the future.

I agree. My CPO LS front and rear bumpers were "reconditioned" prior to sale.

Sorry you missed out on the deal. I was going to (and guess I am) going to say my car also had the rear bumper replaced. Not sure why, not reports anywhere, but none the less, a rear bumper.

Keep looking and the right one will come along.

fwiw, that one must have been very clean. There's no way we would get a car in through reconditioning and not add all the body dings/dents to that list before it's put out, especially if it were a CPO.

Typically those kinds of cars last anywhere between 1-3 days on the lot, if it even gets past the employees.

Keep in mind that a car that is CPO'd must be under a certain amount of years old and be under a certain mileage to qualify. So perhaps that is why it wasn't CPO

Exactly. Curious to know how old it was?

Just to echo what others have said here, its very common for Lexus dealers to completely repaint bumpers before the car is put on the dealer lot. I wouldn't worry about that sort of thing.
