Default 2013+ D4S Headlight Bulbs OSRAM XENARC CBI 5000k #66440

Has anyone with a 2013+ LS460 changed out their D4S headlights for a brighter / whiter color bulb? I've heard good things about CBIs and was considering this upgrade. I asked how hard it would be to change the low beam on another thread and was told it was as easy as popping off the tupperware and twisting the bulb. My spidey senses are doubting it's as easy as that. I haven't ventured under the hood as of yet but wanted to get some feedback from anyone who has. Thanks for any input.

I have considered the same upgrade.

You can't replace the bulbs under the hood, you have to remove the wheel well liners.

After the wheels and liners are removed is it a straight forward R&R?

From what I have seen. I haven't tried to tackle it myself.

You get to go first

I tried to change it out with the aftermarket 12,000K HID for different color . I turned the wheel inward, loosened the fender / wheel well liner. But, it's still kinda hard to unlock/lock the metal bracket that hold the bulb in the housing. I have small hands and still a tight fit. Don't understand why Lexus make it so hard to change light bulbs.

Maybe we just need to jack the front end up and remove the wheels to gain better access?

Yeah that would be easier I'm sure.

Yeah I agree. At 12,000 isn't it like pure blue?!? And you'd be sure to lose half of the usable light output as well as attract the attention of law enforcement.

At 12,000k, it was purple I was just trying out different color looks that different than white. Changed it back a week later with OEM bulbs cuz the purple barely had any light output on the ground. It was just an attempt to get familiar with that process.

All kidding aside, not only were those lights not putting out any light, that bright purple look was blinding and distracting to people at night.

Mods are all well and good, but remember lights, headlights, turn signals, Etc are safety features first, fashion accessories to be played with second.

Yeah I agree. I think using some accent LEDs or additional DRLs would look a lot better than giving up nighttime viewing.

I was just being hardheaded lol. Had to try it out to see . It was s good learning experience and an excuse for me to get acquainted with the car. Just hating the fact why it so time consuming to change out headlight bulbs. Should have been a 5min job. That way I can try out every single bulb color each week

Yeah that would be great to be our resident headlight test pilot. I think I'll just get these in and only have them done once. Per a previous post it does look straight forward after the wheel removal.

Did the exchange and was surprised to see that Lexus had already been using the OSRAM Xenarc bulbs so the upgrade to the CBIs were very subtle but came out a nicer truer white. Side by side it's still hard to tell but it's very clear on start up for sure. Can't wait till these are burned in which should take about 20 hours from what I heard.

Install took the tire tools from the trunk, a jack stand for safety and a 10mm deep socket and trusty flat head. All told it was 2 hours from start to finish.
