Default VIN Plates

I am interested in purchasing a Lexus LS 460. I found one today that is in very good condition with low miles. The only issue holding me back from purchasing is that the VIN is on all body parts except the two passenger doors and trunk. The dealer (not Lexus) told me that that is common with Lexus now and and in 2009. I contacted a body shop that I know and they told me the VIN should be visible on the doors. Carfax clear for what its worth. Does Lexus put VIN on doors for 2009?

Any information appreciated.

I can't answer the question about Vin on the doors. I can tell you carfax is not always accurate. You can take the vin number and head to the Lexus Driver site. Enter the vin and see if anything there shows up.

I have had 3 lexus vehicles, from 2000 to 2011, and all of them had the tracking sticker on major parts. It is something lexus does to help eliminate these vehicles from going to chop shops. Not sure what all parts have these, but I have seen them on most of the body panels, including doors. Now a missing sticker, not sure what that might mean. My guess would be repaint? But the question I would be asking, could you still have orginal parts? Or do you suspect parts from a different vehicle?

I have a 2010LS 460 and have vin stickers on all doors and trunk lid. In your case I would be suspicious of replaced parts. This is not a deal killer to me if priced right and no structural damage. I would have an independent full service repair facility look it over mechanically and for body work, rain/air leaks around doors and trunk. Good catch!

Lexus stopped putting VINs on 460 sometime in 2010, I have certified LWB that does not have VIN tags anywhere. Trunk VIN tags is difficult to find, it is under the inside cover.

If the VIN tags are not on the doors on an 09 460, then they are replaced. I would pass on this car because you don't know what it has been through.

The VIN should be visible on a small black sticker, located on all four doors, the trunk, and hood. My LS have them. If any of the stickers are missing it may indicate body damage. Look for fresh paint around the door seals or signs of body work. I would have a complete inspection done if I had a strong interest in the car. Don't let your dream car turn into a nightmare
