New LS460 pinging noise
Purchased a new LS 460 first of this year. Definitely not as quite as my LS430 and has an annoying pinging sound which the dealership says can't be fixed and is a normal sound for the car.
Talked today with Service Manager and his lead mechanic and was told this is normal.
Problem: When I purchased this car for wife I had an expectation that it would be a quite running car. Not sound like a diesel engine, especially when at idle. I've read about others with the same problem and wonder if there is a fix out there for this annoyance. Lexus claims it is a fuel injector noise. Some people here stated that had there car fixed by Lexus Engineers. Please let me know more information if anyone has any.
Thanks. Just joined this site. Was told by the dealership service manager not to believe anything we read on here. Also it is interesting that the sales department claims they have never heard about this problem.
Just can't believe Lexus is saying this is not fixable.

If it is the ticking from the fuel injector pumps there is nothing you can do about it other then selling your car.
It is faint in mine and many others who enjoy this car and feel it's a non issue but there are some like yourself that are affected by it. There is no point in convincing you otherwise as the members have been down this road before and it's not just Lexus cars that have the DI tick, other manufactures have it also.
It's like DLP for TVs and projectors, some see the rainbow effect where as others don't.
BTW welcome to the forum.

Can you hear the noise inside the car with the windows closed? I have 2 LS460s and can't hear either one idling. If I stand next to the front of the car I hear a faint ticking, but nothing objectionable.
I drove a rental Hyundai Sonata Sunday (thanks to the incompetence of American Airlines) and the GDI system made a weird hashing noise that was very audible inside the car.

Its the DI system. There is nothing wrong with it, which is why there is nothing to fix. Its normal. You won't even hear it soon. I don't.
The service manager sounds like a tool. He probably doesn't want you to come here because he knows how well informed you'll become, and then won't let him get away with any of the usual stealership scams.

Well, I was going to tell you how you might fix it but now I will just have to save my stuff for someone who isn't forewarned.

I get the pinging noise in my 2011 LS 460 too. I find it strange how the volume can change from very quiet to quite noticeable. The dealer says the noise comes from the direct fuel injection and is a feature rather than a bug.

I don't really hear it in mine either. I did in my GS350. It's DI noise, and is normal.

I hate to sound like a stereotype but I work at a dealership, in the service department. I see Ls460s constantly, new and old. the pinging is a normal thing. it sounds a little scary if you are not used to it but its perfectly normal and okay. its sort of like the clickity-clack sound the fuel injectors made on the original ucf10 1UZ Ls400. a little annoying but nothing sinister. btw, I listen to everything I see here. CL is actually my main go-to place for research. im a technology specialist and what better of a way to learn about problems and things people go through with these cars then in real-time, from the people that actually have them, then reading a book about them!
