2011 LS 460L Vibration When Coasting
#16
That actually sounds like the half-shafts, since your car is AWD. Having been in your position about 3 years ago with a new-to-me LS that was three years-old, I can understand your concern. However, I can tell you - knowing everything that was replaced on my car (by the same people working on yours) and the stellar results I had - that absent any other surprises, I wouldn't break a sweat in this situation.
In my case, the Field Technical Specialist was involved, as was the tech line, and the process took time, but without a doubt, my car drives better than even some new ones I've been in.
If this is all they are doing, and the problem is solved, it seems like you will be in good shape.
Regarding tires, I am a huge fan of the Michelin Primacy tire, not just because it is quiet, but also because it is smoother than any other tire I have owned.

Im sure they will sort it for you ... As for tyres michelin all the way for ride comfort and longevity .. Nothing else comes close .
Continental are mostly performance based tyres and having had many sets over the years whilst the handle brilliantly they wear out quicker than you can blink also usually the most expensive option .
Michelin new Primacy 3st was developed to be the worlds quietest tyre . Ride is like a different car too after Dunlops
Good luck

Quick update on the car as of today. Dealer needed to balance all tires and do an alignment, that was the easy part.
The dealer had a call with Lexus technical out in CA and they stated that both front axles need to be replaced. All covered under warranty. Has anyone had front axles replaced on their LS? I'm nervous that I might have purchased a 'Lemon" of a used car. Hopefully this fixes the vibration when coasting at highway speeds, but if not then I assume the dealer will try other things to alleviate. The dealer has been great, so far.

I will be replacing the EL 42's in the next couple of months. Still plenty of tread left, but they are noisy and seem to not take bumps so well. Looks like Michelin Primacy unless another tire impresses me more.

Quick update - the car has been fixed! Both front axles were replaced by the dealer. Covered under warranty, but would have been $3,400 if I had to pay out of pocket. Weird that new axles were needed as the car has less than 30k miles.

Wow that's great to hear, congrats! Did all vibration symptoms go away after replacing the front axles? I am taking my car in tomorrow and will definately get them to look into that as well. As for tires, I highly recommend Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus for ride comfort and noise reduction. I looked at Michelin Primacy MXM4 and Bridgedtone Turanza Serenity Plus too and almost pulled the trigger on the Michelins before going for the Pirelli's. Great reviews and Tirerack.com did a video comparison a while back which included both the Michelins and the Pirelli's and found the Pirelli's quietest and most compliant
I will look into the Pirelli's, thanks for the info.
