Default Tape on bottom of mirror

Attempted to replace my door mirror lights on the bottom to find a layer of tape? covering the light. Is this common or something the previous owner did on his own.

If it is common, where can I get a replacement or is it not necessary?

It was a clear tape or a better description would be almost like a screen protector. It sealed up the area around the bottom of the light. Guess he put it on himself. It wouldn't surprise me as the car already had the wind noise fix done to it.

I think that you are correct to surmise that the tape was placed there in an attempt to tame the "Wind Noise" beast. Back when the cause of the wind noise was not understood many were convinced that it was related to the outside mirrors, especially the hole, probably a drain hole, under the mirror. Lots of mirrors were replaced with mixed reviews as to the effectiveness but the wind noise problem continued for many until the DIY trim repair.

WOW! This is the weirdest coincidence. Mine had the exact same thing on the passenger side which I discovered while replacing the bulbs with LED. I assumed that the lens would be broken by the previous owner and that I'd have to buy a new replacement mirror. Then I remembered that the car had previously been in an accident and that the body shop had obviously neglected to remove the tape.

I was doing the same thing. My drivers side mirror had been hit and repaired. I thought it was some kind of glue or tape holding the light together. It wasn't until I found the one on the passenger side that I knew something was up.

Now I just have to clean up the residue left behind. One a side note, the LED's look great.

I don't have any. My car has had the laminated front and side windows done, and YOUR fix as well. I do not know who did it, but I am assuming the dealer as the vehicle was only brought there. Also according to the salesman who sold the car new, and then to me, the previous owner would only allow the service manager to touch the car. He brought it in to the dealership almost monthly for little things, so I know he was rather **** about it.

My only issue is the road noise from my tires. I have the Turanzas so they are kind of loud. Short of that, the car is quiet as a church mouse.

I had the Turanzas on mine and when I changed to the Michelin Pilot MXM4s it was like night and day.

Can you share with us whether the triangle trim on your car is the original style trim or the style with the fin that came with the 2013 and later models.

I plan on the Michelins next time, but these are brand new.

My triangle trim is the original style trim.

Thanks for your answer regarding the trim style - it speaks volumes.
