Default Lexus used car platinum warranty

Well, as the title says, I was just able to get a 3 year 36000 mile Lexus Platinum warranty on my 2007 LS460 with 64,000 on the clock. That'll take the car to 9.5 years and 100,000 miles. You have to buy this from a Lexus dealer (and strictly, it should be purchased from the dealer when you buy the car) but Lexus Financial appears to be having a sales blitz on everything from new car leases to extended warranties this month (they may have "bent" the rules for me as I am a 20+ year Lexus owner and customer at my delership). Yes, it was more expensive that a 3rd party extended warranty ($2800 vs $2000-$2600) but clearly much better value.

So. no more worries about brake actuators control arms, nav systems etc!

Whooopeeee!!!

EDIT: For interested parties, here is the description of the warranty: http://www.lexusfinancial.com/consum...um_VSA-05A.pdf

unless that brake actuator fails, they won't replace it. The noise is an annoyance but not detrimental to performance and not replaced once past 4/50 warranty unless it fails or is compromised..so I'm told

Someone else here recently posted about Lexus, or the dealer, granting a Lexus Platinum warranty outside the normal limits. I'm wondering if competition is getting them to relax things a little.

Just this morning on CNBC I saw that MB passed BMW as the number one luxury car in sales for last year. Lexus was number three. As I recall MB sold 312,000 cars, BMW I don't remember (maybe 300,000) and Lexus was something like 273,000.

Well, it's not on the "excluded items" list. But let's hope is doesn't fail (or click)!

It wasn't really outside the normal limits (got it a week ago and the age/mileage is eligible), but I didn't buy the car from the dealer.

Yes, they usually bargain down the new car prices pretty hard to achieve this. Back in 1992 I got a new BMW 5 series for under invoice (unheard of back then). That was the first year BMW surpassed MBZ in sales!

Nice!
I wasn't aware Lexus offered a warranty after the 4/50.

Yeah man, it is basically an upsell and usually provides a high profit margin with these warranties. The overwhelming majority of cars made by Lexus don't have chronic issues like MB and BMW..most of their vehicles are leased IIRC. So that is why haggling is always good on these dang warranties. Their final price is just a suggestion..not fact!!

Yes, I did the same kind of thing when I bought my new IS250. Was your LS460 Platinum warranty purchased while the car was still under the original factory 4/50,000 factory warranty?

Where did you purchase the Lexus VSA? A week ago I purchased a 2010 w/15k and have been checking around for a Lexus Platinum warranty (Due to feedback from this forum). Jerry at Midwest told me he could not offer anything since the vehicle was a month beyond the original factory warranty. The local Lexus dealership where I take my ES is offering a Penske backed warranty. Does anyone know definitely if a Lexus Plat can obtained even though put of factory warranty?

Hmmmm.......... interesting. Maybe I didn't do as well as I thought I did. But I'm happy anyway - that's what insurance is all about - peace of mind!

You can't buy it from my dealer as they only do local business. But I would contact a couple of Lexus dealerships within driving distance and ask to speak to the Finance and Insurance manager. Tell him (or her) your situation and that you "understand that it might be possible to purchase the Lexus used car platinum warranty".
