Default 2008 Lexus LS460 auto brake

Hi guys,

curious, I have my auto brake on (emergency brake). So it’s always on auto. I’m curious, does this auto brake feature have anything to do with the brake actuator going bad sooner/earlier? Does anyone know?

im thinking about disabling it if it pro longs the life of the actuator.

Thanks in advance

I think It’s a different system from the hydraulic system. It uses an electric actuator to engage the parking brake shoes.

It only engages when the car comes to a halt. The brake actuator (do you mean the accumulator?) has nothing to do with the auto-hold function.

It is actually called "actuator", at least, that is what Lexus calls it.

Well when mine failed the tech representative called it an accumulator. I stand corrected.

Accumulator is the pump while the actuator is the one who distributes the pressure.

do you know if your brake actuator / accumulator goes bad if you use the auto e brake button to set auto?

I do not see why it would. E-brake uses electric motors vs. hydraulic system used by the actuator.

To reaffirm the posts by sdls and Anfanger, the electronic brake system is a totally different system than the hydraulic brake actuator that you're concerned with. The electronic brake system has its own ECU and actuator (ECU is located within trunk panel on driver side and actuator somewhere between underside of trunk and rear undercarriage) and operates the rear brake shoes (different from the disc pads) via cable. I leave my electronic brake set on auto and haven't ever had any issues.
