CPO Warranty Extension?
I just acquired a 2008 CPO LS460L, which has a 3 year "bumper to bumper" warranty through lexus up to 100,000 miles (53k now). At the time of purchase, I was offered an additional 1 year of CPO coverage, up to 125,000 miles, for $1,700 additional, or 2 more years (still 125k), for $1,925. This offer apparently isn't available other than at time of purchase.
I probably drive 15-17k miles per year. I don't change cars very often -- just not that wealthy. My "prior" car was a 17-year old LS400 that I've had for 12 years, if that gives you any idea.
Anyhow, would you take it the extension, or not? Why or why not?

Stick with the original CPO warranty. $1700 for one year is outrageous. I bought a new LS in 2012 and was offered an 8 Year, 100,000 for $1900 underwritten by LEXUS Extended Warranty.

Def do not do the 1 year extension. The 2 year would be the one to get. But only if you plan on holding the car for the full 5 years. I had the original 3/100k on my LS430 and they did about $8,000 worth of work under that warranty....they are amazing. If you plan on holding the car for the full 5 years then do it, no doubt in my mind that is the right decision. If anything goes wrong on the car it is covered, and these fixes are really expensive. One air suspension corner is about $1800 installed.

not to mention the 07 and 08's were a little dicey on the reliability. take it. sounds like you'll make good use out of it, if you can still purchase it that is.

jpl, is that extended warranty through Lexus or a third party?
If it is through Lexus, you might be able to purchase it through a different Lexus dealer. There are 3 dealers that have been mentioned in this forum as deeply discounting the extended warranty.
I agree with the others that the rate you were quoted is much too high.

You can only extend the CPO warranty at the time of purchase. I looked into this. You can't buy it at another dealer like with the Lexus Platinum/Gold warranty plans. The CPO warranty is actually provided by a 3rd party with Lexus branding.

This is reason enough and why I got my 5/125K CPO wrap! One corner will pay for my 2 year extension on my CPO. It's great knowing my 2008 car is covered CPO until 2017 since I bought in 2012!! Already had over $2K in control arms replaced...so anything else I get fixed between my 3-5 year timeframe will pay for the warranty and then it's gravy
