If you're thinking resale, I would do the base car optioned up over the F Sport.

Quick question, if you liked the MKZ and E Class have you driven the GS? No V8 in the GS, but the drive is way better than the E Class, and clearly a class up from the MKZ (which I like a lot as well).
I'm thinking for resale I should get an LS and not an LS F-Sport even though I think they are cool.

I drove a GS 450h, nice acceleration and CVT tranny is smooth. I like the LS better because it has more room inside, but GS was fun to drive. GS 450h pretty much loaded is only 60-65 K . Buying a GS would save me 20 K. lol

New redesigned 2015 ES 550, available spring 2014 looks pretty cool. Car and Driver online has some pics.

Hyundai is definitely closing the gap and forcing real luxury manufacturers like Lexus to push further into exclusivity and technology. What makes the difference is little things that you notice over the long term, like true ride quality. LS won't feel "brittle"' after you've lived it for 6 months, not sure you can say the same thing about the Hyundai

Overall, the 460's have not been as reliable as the 400's and 430's. The only major issue with the 460's was the valve spring recall for 07 & 08 models. I think part of the problem with the 460's is the cost of the parts when you are out of warranty. Suspension issues are really expensive. If you have plenty of money and are not really concerned about cost go ahead and buy new. I'm not trying to tell you not to. I have purchased new cars before. None that were 80K but I look back and totally regret not using that money on a beautiful single owner LS. Lesson learned.

If you are going used and want better reliability, a low mileage 2006 430 would be a better choice. Yes they are older and not as modern or powerful but they were also put together better. I personally would not trust the 460's much without a warranty. Too many little things are going wrong with them and they cost an arm and a leg to fix. But you could easily purchase a late model 460 with the extended warranty for under 40k. Lexus offers the Platinum Warranty up to 120k miles. Or even a 600hl with the extended warranty.

Again, just my opinion. I don't plan on ever spending more then 20 - 30k on an investment that is guaranteed to loose money. I would much rather put that extra 40 to 60k at work making me money rather then watching it depreciate 60% in the first 5 years. A new car, on average, looses 11% of it's value the moment it leaves the lot.

Example

Or

Below is an example of depreciation on a $81,000 car.
Yeah , I've read that. I threw it out because the Hyundai Equus seems to have gotten better every year and that article was old.

I don't buy a car for an investment. I may die before I can spend my retirement, so I get what I want, enjoy life and save money for retirement. I know several friends who have passed away in their 40's and 50's, too tight with their money and didn't really enjoy life.

I buy used when I can find something I want.

Absolutely, life is too short to deny yourself things that you want and can afford.

I believe that buying a new car is a waste of money. You can get a used low mileage 2010-2012 LS 460 for the same or even lower price of a new Equus. The Equus has not been around long enough for me to really trust it's reliability and how it will hold up in the long term as far as the interior rattles and shakes.
