Default Did you go from a 430 to a 460?

I bought an 03 430 last year and am truly amazed with the comfort, quality and refinement. This has been my road trip car and has fit that role very nicely. However there are some things I find myself sorely missing. Just to name a few, MP3 Capability, Smart Key, Bluetooth.... you get the idea.

I can satisfy most (if not all) of these needs with an 06 430 but the newer style and increased HP of the 460 seem to be calling to me. However a few have suggested that the 460 lacks the solidity and build quality of the 430.

I'm not trying to start a big 430 vs 460 argument but I would like to get the opinions of those who have owned both. This would go a long way in helping me make my decision.

Also, there seem to be a MANY more 07, 08 & 09 460's available than 05 or 06 430's. albeit at a higher price, but I'm OK with that part.

Thanks in advance for any help.....

I owned a 400 and a 430 and now a 2007 460. Overall I think the 430 is a better built car but the 460 is more modern and better looking. My 430 was flawless in operations while with the 460 I deal with wind noise, rough idle, etc that did not happen with the 430. If I were to do it all over again, I would get a low mileage 2006 430 vs a 2007 460.

i have never owned a 430, but did own a is250, ES300 before. I must say that the ls460 i own today is probably the one with the most glitches. I would have to agree that if i had known this before, i would've purchased a 06 ls430 fully loaded with low miles and never looked back. The reliability is SOLID on the 430 and you will get bored of NOT HAVING any issues with it lol..

I have had a 2001 430, 2009 460 and 2011 460. I agree with Waynedog on most points although I have not had the wind noise issue in either 460. However I found the styling of the 430 so dull that I could not give up my 460 for it even though the 460 is not as trouble free.

lets not forget about the terrible brakes on the LS460. I LITERALLY feel like a mule is kicking me in the a$$ as i attempt to bring my car to a slow steady stop. I have accepted the fact that the brakes on this car are NOT BETTER than the vehicle from the flinstones. Heck, i considered buying combat boots like the ones i wore in the army and just open the door and drag my left leg on the ground to help smooth out the brakes on this car. TERRIBLE, TOUCHY, GRABBING BRAKES on this vehicle.

^we have a 2007 LS460 and a 2006 LS430:

My opinion:
LS430: feels like you're riding on a cloud, very comfortable--very numb driving. Fit and finish TOP notch. The care has double the miles of the 460 and no big complaints

LS460: Drives incredible, very quick, and fairly agile. TERRIBLE brakes. The car also has fit and finish issues with trim, wind noise...etc that I'm not very impressed with as I have been with the LS430. But honestly overall its a great car and I prefer to drive it more.

Maybe the LS460 Sport made from 2010-2012 is the sweet spot (if you don't need LWB) to eliminate the poor braking performance. It's supposed to have really good Brembo brakes.

My lwb with the touring package has nice brakes. The car stops fine and it handles very well for a large sedan. I love my car.

The DIY Wind Noise Fix transforms most of the cars with wind noise problems into exceptionally quiet cars. It is easy, inexpensive and low risk.

I have owned the following:

1998 LS400 purchased with 62K on the clock , sold with 189K issues...zero
2001 LS430 purchased with 67K on the clock, sold with 220K issues...zero
2005 LS430 purchased with 92k on the clock, sold with 134k issues...bad nav disk, rain sensor conked out, AC leak.

Purchasing an 07 with 52k on the clock.....results to TBD SILVER WITH GRAY GUT

Of all of them the 98 was the beast. Lexus had not yet refined the pure power that motor could unleash. I LOVED that car, I sold it to my Dad who loved it even more than I, but after he passed I had to so something with it. I wish I kept it as it is now some where in the United Arab Emerates.

My 2001 and 2005 were nice, but if I had a dollar for everytime someone at valet said 'yeah, grab the keys for the silver Mercedes." I will appreciate the stand alone style and extra power numbers. A flag ship car should not have HP numbers in line with a Suberu Imprezza, IMO.

I am looking at coil overs and a 20 inch stagger package after the clear bra and tint go on immediately.
