Default Cruise control of 2013 LS460

Hi, I am considering trading my 2013 Mercedes S350 for S550 or LS460. I do not like diesel (vibration and poor acceleration) and have some other pretty minor issues with Mercedes. I am not an enthusiastic driver and am more after comfort and quietness rather than dynamic and prestige, hence I am still choosing between Mercedes and Lexus (which I appreciate for nice Bluetooth audio streaming).

But the feature I really love about Mercedes is how you set cruise control in it. It allows you to set whatever speed you need regardless of the speed you are travelling when engaging cruise control. Then, after breaking you also can momentarily restore previously used speed with one slight movement of finger. Let us say, I am driving 70 MPH and see a speed limit dropped by 5 MPH. I do nothing but move the cruise control stick once - and the speed gradually but fast decreases by 5 MPH. Then I want to increase speed by 80 MPH - I move cruise control stick three times (it changes incrementally by 5 MPH if properly moved) and the car does the rest of the job by itself. I do not need to press any pedals or look at the speedometer at all!

In order to change set speed in RX 350 I used to drive before, I needed to depress pedals (break of acceleration) or press buttons carefully watching speedometer till the speed was right. Really annoying as compared to Mercedes.

Has 2013 LS 460 improved the cruise control experience?

IMO, yes. the 2013 LS has the All Speed Dynamic Cruise, Dynamic Cruise and the conventional Cruise, which to me is all in the same, one Cruise option might work slightly different than the other. LexusDrivers.com has 3 vids on the different cruise controls for the 2013 LS.

The 2013 LS460 cruise control (in any of its various flavors) works just the same as your Mercedes description. Additionally, the LS460 displays your set speed at all times so you can easily see that your adjustments have been properly accepted by the system. It can be difficult to obtain the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control option (DRCC) due to Lexus packaging and dealer inventory practices, so I advise asking your dealer about it at your earliest opportunity. Good luck.

sydtoosic and williakz, thanks for your insights! I am going to test-drive it now! (It takes some effort since the closest 2013 LS460 is 2.5 hour drive from me)

I have used the conventional Lexus cruise and the adaptive cruise control as well as the conventional cruise and the distrinonic in the Mercedes. Both work the same way, but the speed that the cruise is set is displayed only with the adaptive cruise control not the regular cruise in the Lexus. Mercedes displays the set speed in both the distronic and conventional cruise. This is the norm for the Toyota/Lexus system and is exactly like your experience with your RX.

I stand corrected. I have the adaptive cruise.
