Default Bad News / Good News

Bad news.. my beloved LS 430 (2004) totaled. Gone. Goodbye as of this afternoon. I plowed into a Honda Pilot and totaled both cars. Don't know how it happened. I've never ever been in this type of accident before. But it happened.

Great news! no one hurt. I got some bumps and bruises but the old gal protected me well. Airbag burns and that's pretty much it. Other car everyone OK.

Good news! I get to look for a 07 or 08 LS 460 to replace the old car. Are there any differences worth the premium of an 08 over a 07 model? I remember the 07s having some noise issues and as far as i know, only the '13 model (out of my price range) is a significant improvement in the same way the 04-06 was over the 01-04 (I might have the years wrong, but you know what I mean).

Also, if I can get a deal I will go with LWB, but that's not really a dealbreaker. All I really want is ML stereo, laser cruise and the A/C seats... other than that I imagine I'll get most everything I had on the old LS.

Great news to hear you and everyone else is OK, we need to keep up our membership numbers here!

There isn't any real difference in the two years. Some '07's may have a wind noise issue, but of course you will test drive anyway so just check for it with a highway drive. Other than that, just make sure all 3 recalls (idler pulley, fuel rail and valve seal replacement) were done.

Glad everyone was okay. As for the premium over 07-09 models, they were all the same price range when I was looking around for my CPO. The only major difference was the 2010+ models where they wouldn't budge on the price anything below 54k. I got my CPO with ML system for 40k + tax and licensing. But if you look at my previous threads, I ended up have a lot of issues with it.

Laser cruise typically comes only on the LWB. Some special order SWBs might have it.

Actually radar cruise control is as likely to be on a SWB as a LWB. The real determinant is if it was a Lexus program car was it destined for above or below the snowbelt. When I bought my car I had to special order it because no LS460's of either length with radar CC were shipped to snowbelt states. Not a single LWB through New England, New York, PA or Ohio had radar CC. My dealer even went as far south as MD and VA. If you wanted it, you had to order it.

I was only going about 25 -28 miles an hour at impact, but it's amazing how hard a hit it was. It completely demolished the front end of the car, but that's what it's supposed to do. Seatbelt tensioners work so well, I didn't even get the typical bruise I've always heard about. Today, two days later, I'm practically free of any soreness. I'm still shaken by what happend, but physically there's nothing! It's a testament to just how well these cars are built.

The Pilot was fine compared to the Lexus. Everyone's doors opened, etc. My bumper dove under the front bumper and the grill and engine took the hit.

Where exactly did you hit the pilot? Front right? Front Left? Just curious. Again, glad you are OK.
