Default Car won't start - Help

I played golf on Sat. When I finished I got into my car and pressed the start button. All the lights on the dash came on but nothing happened. I tryed to jump start the battery. Nothing. I got a volt meter from someone at the club and found that the battery was fine. I called Lexus Road Side Assistance - what a waste of time. They told me that I was not covered two years ago.I called the Lexus dealer close to me.Northside Lexus. They told me it was the in the key. Just hold the key close to the start button and it will start. Did this and nothing. I did not get the indicator light that the car cannot find the key. Everytime I press the start button, I hear on click from the engine then nothing. I think maybe the starter. I had the car toed to the Lexus dealer since I have the extended warranty. I changed the battery about two months ago after the car was dead late one Sat. night in a parking garage. But I jump started it and drove it home. Replaced battery and everything was fine until today. Any suggestions on what is going on?

Thanks

JARM

I just went through the same exact thing a couple of weeks ago. It sounds like the battery again, it's possible that the new one wasn't charged all the way from the get go. But since it is recurring and you are under warranty, I'd let them handle it.

I hear on click from the engine then nothing.

Definitely sounds like the battery doesn't have enough juice. It could be a faulty battery, but since it is a new battery, one possibility is you have a drain somewhere.

I checked the battery with a volt meter and it registered 12.6. The minimum needed is 9 volts. I don't think it is the battery. The battery was not purchased from Lexus. But I will report back as Lexus will tell me tomorrow what is wrong with the car.

It could be the starter/solenoid if you are hearing click in engine compartment when you push the start button. Let us know what the dealer finds.

Silverpaws and my diagnosis was correct. It was the starter/solenoid and it was covered by the extended warranty. This a perfect example of why you want to purchase the extended warranty. This is the first time that I have used the extended warranty and it paid for itself today.
