Had a weird noise occur suddenly in the rear of the car as I was traveling about 75 MPH straight into a 30 MPH head wind. It was a high pitched whine coming from the roof near the center of the rear window glass. After about 10 minutes I pulled over because it was so loud and irritating. I thought the antenna shark fin was loose and vibrating or something since the noise was coming from that area. I checked it. Nope. Tight.

I drove another 10 minutes on the highway and again pulled over convinced it had to be the antenna vibrating. That’s when I noticed the third brake light was slightly higher than the roof’s sheet metal. I wondered if the wind was hitting it and making it vibrate. I felt the 3rd brake light and could rock it back and forth slightly. I figured perhaps that was the issue. So…..I chewed some gum right there, wedged it between the brake light and the sheet metal reveal like putty to stabilize the light and eliminate the height differential. I then drove down the same highway. Guess what? It stopped vibrating. I kid you not, gum.

Long story short…two clips that hold the light in place were bad and the entire unit had to be replaced. The dealer confirmed that the free play in it caused the vibration noise. All fixed under warranty.
