Default What would happen if you left the engine operating for an extended period of time?

I'm curious to know how leaving the engine on for a long period of time (24hrs+) would affect the car (not even sure if the car is designed to endure this).

And would it make a difference if the car was moving or standing while the engine was left operating for those extended hours?

I read on the internet about a guy who forgot his car operating for a full day, and the car now wouldn't start again though it has gas in the tank. So I got curious to see the limits of the Lexus quality in such situations.

Running a car for 24 hours straight shouldn't harm anything. But as the attached post stated, maybe a dead battery and empty fuel tank. This shouldn't be any different that driving a car cross country non stop.

A Lexus will run until it runs out of gas.

I've taken some trips where I haven't turned the car off in over 24hrs, but that's with driving, so I don't know if it's different than idling, (I would assume worse). This car is a freight train IMO.

You fuel that baby up with the engine running? Or, do you have an auxilary tank or something like that?
