random idea for "2nd set" of fog lights on the LS ?
Had an idea the other day that I mentioned to Tee while we were at the dealership getting work done. Folks that know me always expect me to come up with weird ideas, so here goes.
Being from Colorado, we got really bad weather there year round and being visible on the road was always a MUST.
I have yellow bulbs for my HID fogs now and I rarely use my high beams. I was thinking of going with 6000K's for my headlights, going to 4300K bulbs for my lower fogs to get more side of car white light and then adding another slim HID kit for the High Beams (my DRL is disabled) in the 3000K yellow flavor.
Stay with me here, don't flame me just yet.
The high beam would get the 3000K yellow HID kit for extremely inclimate weather like heavy rain, snow, and fog only..not for just driving around at night.
I think the yellow light coming from the high beam projector lens would look really nice and clearly make the car visible in really bad weather. Remember the old ES's back in the day with their lower projector yellow fogs?..they looked great!
Here are the issues I see with this:
* The high beams cannot be vertically adjusted independently from the low beam headlight, therefore they may be too bright with the higher aim design on this lens, even in bad weather..but perhaps not an issue if there is still daylight.
* HIDs take up to 20-30 second to reach full intensity and I would most likely loose the "flash to pass" feature and ballasts don't like to be on and off in short cycles and will fail quickly if you do that. SN: Didn't realize our headlights actually come on when you do the flash to pass now, seems like just the highs should just come on when lights are off.
* the high beam bulb has a cover which may not allow for easy access to get the hid bulb wire from the harness without some work.
* 6 ballasts would be on the car, power consumption issues for the alternator perhaps?
* lose the ability to have really bright white light on a desolate road and ride with high beams on.
Alternative would be to get a high quality yellow 9005 bulb and skip HID altogether for this purpose, but will they look really "yellow" like the HIDs can do?
Random thought, just curious on what you all thought.

need to order an HID kit to upgrade my fiance's halogen low beams. I'll test her kit out on this project since I have a spare set of 3000K yellow bulbs..if it looks good, I'll keep it installed and just order her another kit to install on her car...her headlights aren't burned out yet lol
