Default Helping friend sell his '08 LS460 w/43k mi, 19" wheels, no ML, immaculate. Pricing?

Hi,

Of all things... I've been on this board for a year or more, lurking mostly, thinking about selling both my cars at some points in the last couple of years and picking up an '07 LS460 but can't pull the trigger. I'm just not totally sold yet. Drove one for 2 days and didn't totally love it. Seats and steering wheel weren't to my taste and quite frankly, not that comfortable in my hands or on my as*. It really surprised me though maybe it was just the car I tried...

I helped a friend buy his '08 LS460 SWB, Silver with Black interior, no ML, 19" 5 Spoke Lexus Wheels, Comfort package, well maintained, every scheduled maintenance at the dealer, immaculate condition car about 2 years ago and he's commissioned me to sell it for him since he's a busy doctor and doesn't have the time to do it himself nor wants to take the hit when trading it in. He's just looking for a change and is looking to lease a BMW 535i or 528i.

I've sold other cars for him in the past (he only keeps them a couple years, typically) so he's sending me pics of the car soon as he just had it detailed.

Prices seem to be all over the board on these and he wants to sell it fast so pricing it right is important at the beginning. I've seen them from $34999 with about 40k miles to $41500 with about the same miles and these aren't from Lexus dealers. No extended warranty on it.

Any thoughts on what I should list it for? Part of me wants to buy it from him. Part of me thinks it's WAY too big for a single guy (recently divorced last week, no kids). Right now I still have my 2 maintenance hogs that I love and hate - 01 BMW 740i Spt and 96 911 C4S. I guess I'll just reluctantly sell it for him and not buy it. But, I'm tempted. I'd REALLY want the ML if I'd be buying this car. Wouldn't anyone? Does that kill the value? He doesn't even listen to music really. I only listen to XM radio which is crappy sounding anyway. I hate the idea of a Nav that can't be used while driving by my passenger (ok, and me) but I already "went there" in another post so I won't labor the point. If these cars were around $28-29k right now I'd seriously consider getting it but for mid to higher mid 30's I'm not "in". I don't think...

Thanks in advance if you think you know "the right price to list it for". And no, I don't have the pics yet. Just picture a silver/blk SWB '08 in pretty much perfect condition and you have the car in mind. To my recollection there isn't a mark on it or if there is, it's very slight.

Cheers,
Steve

I looked on autotrader.com to get an idea what current private sale prices are and I think most of the sellers are doing some wishful thinking. With 43k miles and no ML or extended warranty, IMHO that a listing price would be no more than 42.5k negotiable unless he wanted to test the local market for a couple of weeks with a higher price. BTW, there was a TSB on the 07 and some 08 LS front seats because owners were complaining that they were too firm. I am not sure if the TSB resolved the issue or not. Nevertheless, you may have difficulty transitioning from a BMW 740i Sport and a 911 to an LS. Good Luck.

Silverpaws - Thanks for the response. He paid $45k for it 18 months or so ago so getting $35k or $36K for it now may be the right number...

I'll have to really think about it as we don't want it to languish on the market forever. He wants me to move this metal soon.

He first owned a new Lexus LS 430 (maybe an 04, I can't remember), got bored with it and didn't love it that much so he bought an Acura MDX brand new as well for the winter. He kept the 2 cars for a short while.

Then he got a new BMW 750li and kept it for 2 years. He dumped that and the MDX (terrible fuel economy he said) and got a Honda LX to save money, have better fuel economy and cut his costs.

He tired of that after 2 years so I helped him sell that and he got the Lexus LS460 SWB.
