Just took delivery of a 2010 LS460L. There is a small scratch in the dash pad. Unfortunately, it is right in my line of sight, so I see it. The dealer will replace the pad, but I am worried that if I fix this small defect, I may end up with rattles and squeaks. Anyone know the details of such a replacement? Any suggestions? I know, "live with it," but like Lexus, I am always in pursuit of perfection.

If they replace the dash and it gives your noises afterwards, keep complaining till they get it right! That's alot of money to drop and not be 100% happy!

I use to work for Toyota manufacturing and it is not an easy task. You basically have to tear down the entire instrument panel...that's a lot of parts that needs to be remove. Not trying to scare you but there is always a chance of squeaks and rattles. How big is the scratch?

I would see if there is a patch or other that could make this tolerable. I would not have them replace my dash.. its a monster job and its a new vehicle. There is no way it would go back together and be the way it was from the factory.. The dash is vinyl/plastic/rubber, I have to believe that they could just touch this up to make you happy

I believe the dash can be restored. I had scratches on my dash that the dealer had a subcontracted interior restorer touch up. I think he lightly sands the defect and then airbrush, I really don't know the process, but the dash now looks really good. Can't even tell the difference. I agree with Nat and cmasten, I wouldn't want them to tear the interior apart. That's why I didn't do the wind noise tsb where I could get double pane windows put in. Too afraid of them taking even the door panels apart. Too many fasteners to loosen, leading to rattles.

Yep, that's how I use to do it. Sand it down and touch it up with paint and a sponge.

I've had mine replaced under warranty. No problems and no rattles. Mine had a white powder look to it and had to be replaced. I would have it replaced, not patched...
They did short out my rain sensor, but replaced it easily.

I am happy to say, that Lexus of Cerritos, stepped up to the plate on this one. They UNWOUND the original deal and switched the car for a new, identical one they had in stock. They took the one with the scratched dash back and gave me a brand new car in its place. Cerritos is a great place to buy a new Lexus.
