I think this has been posted here before and if so, sorry! I have a 2007 LS and it appears I never got the print maintenance booklet.

My MAIN question is does this requires 5000 mile oil changes or can I go 7500? Somewhere I read that you can go 7500 if "non extreme" driving. Without getting into the "it's good for your car" debate to change oil sooner....what is the official TOYOTA word?

I tried to download the maintenance schedule from "MY LEXUS" at the official Lexus web site but it says that the pdf document is not currently available. Perhaps someone here has it and can Email it to me. If you send me a PM I'll give you my Email address.

My oil is extremely dark at 5k miles so I don't wait for 7.5k. I plan to keep my car for a long time.

The manual says you CAN go 7.5k miles and not void the warranty -- I'd probably do this if my car was leased.

Nice to see you posting again Daryll. I agree with the longer interval, as I'm sure they are erring on the safe side (dirty conditions, hard driving). I'll be doing my own oil changes soon, and fully intend to go long...

I am still trying to find where it says that up to 7500 is OK. I don't see that anywhere.

I have done a visual search and an electronic search of the referenced document and nowhere can I locate "7500" or "7,500" or "7.5K" or anything else other than a "recommendation" that the oil and filter be changed every six months or 5,000 miles, which ever comes first. Can you please direct me to the page where it says the oil and filter can go to 7,500 miles between changes.

It doesn't cloud the issue at all really. Because the only issue is "what does Lexus allow?"

It appears that the true answer is "5000 miles" until someone can point to something in writing that it's "7500 miles". I also seem to recall this 7500 discussion but I would like to see it in writing.

D40, this isn't in writting and I own a LS430 still but, I always go to about 6,000-6,500 miles for my changes and I always dealer(Lexus) my car. I have a great relationship with my local service dept. for Lexus and have been told its cool to go over 5,000 miles for the intervals!

Again, I have a 2001 LS430 and Im just hoping this helps out being you helped so many when you were in the LS430 section. That said, it won't hurt if you go till 7,500 at all as long as you change oil at or before 7,500! I do my changes on average 1,000 miles-1,500 miles over 5,000. Maybe you'd like to try that. Its between 5,000 and 7,500 miles ! Also fellow member, Im sure that someone in the service dept can inform you of a safe amount of miles between intervals that will be safe.

Im sure the 5,000 they tell us is only a preventative thing and not a thing to be concerned about if you don't change oil etc. exactly at 5,000 miles. If that was the case I'm sure we would all fail to do so. I don't have time for service exactly at 5,000 thats why im always over due to my career! All the best! L.G.N.M

An oil that merely gets dark only means it's doing it's job. It's detergent oil, it's meant to clean and keep any contaminants in solution until draining. Unless the oil really thickens and looks like it came from the La Brea tar pits, the color makes little difference.

If you want to see clean oil use one of the non-detergent oils, they're hard to find but they're out there. A gazillion years ago I used to sell/install Frantz oil filters (they used toilet paper, remember?) Even at 25,000 miles the oil still looked like honey.

The warranty and services Guide says 5K, or every six months...whichever comes 1st.
I am in for my 20K, and they have changed to pure synthetic to keep the lifters from sticking.

I know on the LS430 schedule maintenance it has both 5,000 mile and 7,500 mile intervals! again, I don't know what it says for the LS460 but, I can imagine D40 going to 7,500 shouldn't damage is well built newer LS460!!! Of course I'm assuming here but, with the new tech advances I can't see the LS430 being able to go 7,500 and the LS460 only able to go 5,000 miles without having oil/service done.

Just the math alone tells you that if you go 7,500 miles every service compared to 5,000 miles a service in a 15,000 mile period that comes out to 2 services if you go 7,500 miles and 3 services if you go 5,000 miles per service. Extra money will sure be made by the dealers service department. I know, I know its preventative maintenance. That said, these cars should be able to take another 2,500 miles more before service. I think(I don't know) 7,500 is safe as long as you go in on or before 7,500 per service done!

Best bet is ask a mechanic and cant say if you'll get the typical sales pitch from a Lexus/Toyota service department that they give and all companies do to make more sales. I can here it now " we'll Mr.... you can go longer than 5,000 miles but we here at Lexus and all our dealerships recommend that 5,000 be done as the mileage you have service done, maybe 100-200 miles over give or take but, 5,000 nonetheless. That said, Mr... you can go 7,500 miles per service but, again we don't recommend it". Then you leave more confused than before.

I find in sales when this line is used its clear that 7,500 miles per service isn't bad to do. Why? If it was flat out not OK, wouldn't they say it and be firm on just 5,000 instead of saying we don't recommend it but, you can! Just a thought. People are so stuck on making money that there is a disconnect that actual peoples hard earned money is what pays for not so much needed work they ask for customers to pay for. Oh well, all the best guys and WISDOM may be the thing to use here. I'd go 6,000-6,500 miles to stay on the safe side if I wanted to stretch it out a bit more thaan 5,000 miles and not quite as long as 7,500 miles. L.G.N.M
