hi all

I know there have been questions regarding self seat repair on leather so I wanted to share my experience.

I didnt deel safe safe doing this myself so called a company called Fibrenew to do the two front seats.

Here are before fore and after of the driver side. The passenger side looks just as good. Hope this helps someone out in future.

I also think it looks good the only thing I'm not a fan of is that they died the stitching on the outside of the seat so much that it almost looks filled in but I am sure that could be fixed or prior prep work to avoid that. Usually a lighter coat in the area will avoid that. Did you watch them do the repair? did they spray, rub on or paint on? I have some experience dying conoly leather in two Rolls Royces and have used color plus and leatherique dye products you can actually brush on and rub in. Regardless I think it looks better than before and worth it ti spruce up the seats.

Hi Sheri:

I wouldn’t do this again. It didn’t hold up as well especially on the vented seat part as the cracks in the leather appeared again pretty quickly.
I have plans of redoing the two front seats with new leather. The place I am using has a long wait list and I don’t drive it much, so no problems.
Hope this helps you.

I'm looking for the same in Dallas/Houston/San Antonio/Austin area. My expectation were fibernew would be appealing from aesthetic perspective but it doesn't improve from functionality standpoint.

I had a Volvo with torn leather. An auto upholstery shop made a new cover that matched from pleather. It was impossible to tell the difference. It was years ago when every dollar spent mattered to me.

Problem with these leather repair places is that the repair lasts a couple of months and then begins to look as bad as it did originally.

Leather needs torn/damaged components replaced. Pleather can be repaired.

It's just appalling that leather in a top tier trim starts cracking in five or so years. Where has all lexus quality gone?

The front seats in my ES wore out, despite me cleaning and conditioning them regularly. I don't even think conditioning helps, since these seats have a painted type clearcoat on them. The conditioner can't penetrate that into the leather. I read something about that from an auto detail site. Because my ES is a 2011 with high mileage, I opted to go with vinyl in the same seat/stitching/perforation pattern. I'm not keeping the car that long before I'll upgrade, so I went inexpensive. The vinyl is more durable but feels cheap. I really don't care for it. For small bolster panels, go with the leather. If I'm keeping the car awhile, I'd go full leather if the entire seats started wearing out.

My wife's GX has the beautiful ecru interior, but that off-white is going to be awful when it starts wearing badly. I already have the dye kit from seat doctors. I applied one application on that bottom driver seat portion, but I'm not satisfied with it. I'll go over it again. The match is slightly off, but they sent me a bottle of tint. Like the above, it's not a permanent fix.

Hi:

I think you will be happier in the long run, especially if you are keeping the car, to have the work done by a professional reupholsters.

While i can’t complain about the money I spent a few years ago, it wasn’t a long term repair.

Hopefully, you will find a good person/shop to recover your seats.

keep us posted.
