The difference between the laminated and tempered windows. The pics are from the top of the glass, when the window is half open.

So that look like two distinct sheets of glass, uh, laminated together. If I'm reading the photo right, it would be instantly identifiable if the windows were laminated or not, regardless of the etching, correct?

Thanks

Correct. And you can notice that the two thinner layers make a slightly thicker glass when compared to the single sheet tempered glass from the back windows. That helps keeping the noise outside.

So this makes me a bit more peeved at my dealer - instead of VIN number breaks and all that, he should have just told me to inspect the windows to see if it looks like two sheets or one.

Both front windows were swapped and because we had some rain here today I can't tell yet if the wind noise problem is fixed, but I can tell one thing: The service performed was flawless. Absolutely no scratches, nothing loose, they did an **excellent** job. This experience was completely transparent for me, it looks and feels like the car has never been in the shop for the window fix.

Friday I'll post my final report here, I'll drive to the tint place (freeway included) to get the front windows tinted again.

They also performed 2 other ECU updates, one for knocking on specific conditions and the other for the hesitation on take off.

Lexus service rocks.

Did you notice that the Security system labels are not on the new glass?

Look through the post dated 7/13/2007 and you will see the part list that I posted with part numbers except for the insulation kit that has no part number at this time.

No, its not in the VIN. Open your driver's door and on the bottom right you'll see the manufacturer's plate. In the upper right hand corner you will see the date of manufacture expressed in month and year, e.g. 05/07.

Just wanted to congratulate you guys on sensibly sharing all this great information. The LS is a wonderful car but as Lexus says, they're pursuing perfection. You guys are helping.

I'm replicating here my post from the other thread, I think this thread has more to do with the wind noise fix than any other...

QTY---------------FP NUMBER -----------Description:

08...................... 75562-30070 ............... Clip. Roof Drip S
01...................... 75545-30150 ............... Clip. Windshield
01...................... 75546-30100 ............... Clip. Windshield
06...................... 90269-A0006 ............... Rivet
01...................... 68102-50200 ............... Glass Sub-assy. F
01...................... 68101-50200 ............... Glass Sub-assy. F

"Noise confirmed during previous test drive, wind buffeting noted from LH front window. Wind leak also noted from driver's door area.
Removed necessary parts from driver's door to install specified foam insulation per area FTS for wind leak. Installed laminated glass to minimize wind buffeting from LH front window. Test drove after repairs and verified effectiveness of operation. Performed same repairs on RH front door."

Again, Lexus of Seattle did an **excellent** job, I'm a very happy customer.

My LWB is in the shop today and will not be back until maybe tomorrow. The shop foreman said he is not happy so far with the repair kit. He also said the Technical field rep said the same thing. I told them do not do the repair if you don't think it will be a permanent fix. As of this morning he thinks Lex is working on another type of repair to fix the wind noise, he did not say what but I will keep everyone informed. So my car may have nothing done to it.

Well my shifter came loose (cheap part) and the "B" pillar cover is going to be replaced and the outside temp guage is not reading correctly.
