I look forward to seeing more of these ads...the international launch of Lexus is making for some pretty interesting ads. Before, I've only seen the one 1990 Australian LS 400 ad, and some Asian Lexus ads...now of course the Japan market ads:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=259212

And who knows what else. It's interesting, South Africa being a fairly small but potentially growing market, they only plan on selling a few dozen LS 460s by what I read, but that already is a major expansion (along with the IS in particular). So the new ads are part of Lexus' growth in many markets...witness the arrival in Malaysia for instance.

Post South African Article

Lexus has introduced its most powerful and luxurious model yet to South Africa, a petrol/battery hybrid called the LS600h L that, the automaker says, not only has all-wheel drive but "is the epitome of opulence and innovative technology".

Which it should be for R1.55-million.

It's the third big "performance hybrid" machine to reach South African showrooms. Already here are the RX450h and GS450h. Lexus says that, together, they "reinforce the brand's commitment to performance with conscience".

The LS600h L is described as "the pinnacle" of the current Lexus line-up in South Africa. "It has taken the considerable improvements made to the LS460 earlier this year to another level, offering an extended wheelbase and the combination of powerful and refined V8 petrol and electric power."

"It makes this luxury limousine the most innovative car in its segment and a powerful statement for corporate executives who may find themselves in the lavish rear seat: their luxury-car investment is done with an outward display of carbon-conscious mobility."

Fine words indeed, but there's more from Lexus' urbane general manager Kevin Flynn: "The LS has always been a showcase for the latest technology Lexus has to offer. The LS600h L complements the huge step forward taken by the LS460 with a drive train that has even more power and refinement thanks to its full hybrid characteristics."

The automaker says it now regards hybrid propulsion as the core of its power-train technology; indeed, Lexus also declares itself to be the first and only premium manufacturer with a comprehensive range of hybrid vehicles.

So to the LS600h L… The 'L' obviously refers to its status as a long-wheelbase (an extra 12cm twixt front and rear wheels delivered to the rear seats) limo, the '600' to its "six-litre performance" and not to its five-litre V8 engine. The balance of power comes from the electric drive.

As if its sheer bulk were not enough, this flagship hybrid can be identified by the unique grille that is shared by GS450h and its unique headlights: three projector lenses that include the world's first LED (light-emitting diode) technology for low beam and a unique blue highlight around each LED cluster. The car also has 19" rims.

Much of the LS600h L's luxury specification is shared by the substantially upgraded LS460; and, before you ask the salesman, no options are available on the LS range: active (it means the system maintains a set following distance) cruise control, a superior rear cabin entertainment system (including a 23cm LCD monitor that folds down from the roof), self-parking and Ottoman-style rear seats are all standard.

FULL MASSAGE JACKET

The "hard disk navigation" touch-screen also controls all entertainment features and audio/video storage, Bluetooth connectivity and source inputs and has the assistance of a 15-channel, 450W, Mark Levinson digital stereo system with 19 speakers.

The individual rear leather seats are separated by a centre console and have power adjustment from either the console or a remote-control unit. Both can be reclined (the left one to 45 degrees for those executive power naps) and each has a centre seat-back flexing function.

One touch of a memory button automatically reclines the rear seat and extends the Ottoman thigh and footrest whilst simultaneously folding the front-seat head restraint and moving the entire front seat forward to its maximum. When the rear passenger door is opened the Ottoman automatically retracts to maximise ease of entry and exit; opening the front passenger door automatically returns the front seat to its foremost standard position and raises the head restraint.

Coupled to the vibration massage system also found in the LS460, the power-nap seat has an air-assisted massage system based on the technology and operational qualities of the best massage chair on the market today. It has eight pneumatic chambers covering the passenger's shoulders, back and hips and, Lexus says, reproduces professional massage techniques with a range of programmes (the intensity of which may be adjusted by the user), including Shiatsu, shoulder and lower back acupressure.

CLEANER THAN COMPARABLE LIMOS

Some buyers might actually want to drive the car so they might want to know that this limo is a full hybrid capable of operating on petrol or battery modes or both together. Maximum power is 327kW (290kW/520Nm from the V8 and 165kW/300Nm from the battery) but high-speed progress is almost silent; Lexus believes the LS600h L is possibly the quietest car in the world.

Top speed is limited to 250km/h but it will reach 100km/h in 6.3sec and accelerate from 80-120km/h in 4.3sec; overall fuel consumption, however, is listed as only 9.3 litres/100km while emitting CO2 at a rate of 219g/kg. That, Lexus says, is markedly less than rival premium segment sedans of similar power.

The car rides on air suspension that not only controls pitch, but also roll, with driver-selectable normal, comfort or sport modes. A nice way of saying that, if you really want to send this car, you can.

So, to a Final World from Flynn: "Offering this vehicle as a performance hybrid makes it all the more responsible and compelling as a corporate statement and as the ultimate in not only in luxury but also innovative technology. The LS600h L is truly the most innovative, high-tech, luxury car in the world."

As with the rest of the Lexus range, the LS600h L will be delivered with a four-year or 100 000km warranty and a full maintenance plan. Step up now please (or send you chauffeur) with a cheque, proof of bank transfer, folderful of stock certificates or Black credit card made out to the sum of R1 555 000.
