If anybody has only the LS430 on their policy (because it gets disguised when there are multi cars), is this car a bit above average to insure? Meaning, when I compare it to my 335i, it's the same, but this may be masked by us having 3 cars. I think the wholesale is higher on the LS430, implying the risk is just a little less than the 335i. But I woulda thought the risk is much much less with LS drivers being higher in age?
What I mean is the opposite is an expensive SUV, it may be expensive and $$$$ to repair/replace, but the insurance can be very low....actually my 335i was dirt cheap when brand new, barely broke $300/6 mos. It's higher today as insurance always seems to go up as the value goes down...

USAA charges me $465 every 6 months for full coverage. I think they charge way too much and am thinking of droping except liability when I make my last payment in March.

But to illustrate, my 1998 Maxima with only comp and liability was listed at $330, and my wife's 2011 SUV at $380. I asked the agent when I drop the Maxima altogether, will I get $330 off the 6 mo., and he said no, it only shows as that? It's like they spread what they want across all 3 cars. Based on the refund check, it was true....
If you do drop collision, I'd recommend seeing what comp costs, because you can't control theft/vandalism and if you hit an animal like a deer, you're still covered. My LS is showing at $73/6 mos--look at that, double the Maxima, makes sense....

I believe the insurance industry classifies the Lexux LS430 as a Luxury car. This would be a reason for the rates being higher.
I bought a Jagaur S-Type last year and carried full coverage. Ouch when I saw the rates. Was insuring 3 cars and about had
a heart attack.

1125.00/year for full coverage on both LS's and I'm with SAFECO.

For comparison, I went from an 2004 Acura TL to my 2004 Lexus LS430 and transferred the LS to the old policy so all of the coverages are the same. Price went from $266.87 per 6 months on the TL to $338.86 for the LS. I suspect the increase is mostly due to the fact that the LS is typically a more expensive car to repair and or replace...

My insurance is <$700/yr for full coverage with a high deductible, insurance companies classify me as a young (<25), single man with a college degree. But I only drive a few thousand miles/yr and don't commute regularly (my insurance premium was $100 more/yr when I was driving 15k mi/yr). Though some of my demographic information at a few of the data brokerages is pretty off the mark - for some reason they tend to think I'm a home owner with a 2 year degree and a few of them say I work in health care or other 'alternative truths' - and I wonder if that might help me. .
I dream about getting other cars, among the ones I've priced out with my insurance provider (Geico) I think a 2008 Prius would save me something like $20/yr on car insurance and that's the only vehicle I can recall that would lower my premiums. A 90s Integra would actually raise my premiums, go figure. In fact, a newer WRX and 2011 Camaro SS would cost me as much to insure as late 90s Integra.
But I've insured some powerful motorcycles through Geico and I noticed that my insurance premiums dropped considerably after I demonstrated that I could ride a 10 second 1/4 mile bike without dying or getting a speeding ticket - something most other young single men can't seem to manage.

if I was to keep liability and physical damage coverage I would only save about $34 dollars off my 6 month bill. however my deductible is only $500, I thought it was $1000. I guess I haven't done my part on reviewing the policy. liability alone is$109, comprehensive loss $160, collision loss is $140 ...still seems too high

Prior to my LS430 I had a is350, sc400, 96 impala ss, gs300... the LS430 is more than any of those with full coverage or liability. Main reason is the cost to repair if damaged. Luxury or not isn't as big of a factor as people believe unless you are talking luxury performance like your AMG, M, S or Lexus F models... those are a different rating like a srt8 vs rt. Cars with multi stage oem paint are also more to insure.
When you buy a certain car it's for a reason... cost for gas, maintenance, and regular fees become secondary or lower. If you like what you are driving you find a way to make it fit... plenty of ls400 out there to toss liability on, make it primary, ls430 pleasure low use, rate goes down 9 times out of 10 because you've isolated your risk exposure to the liability car and picked up a multivehicle discount.
