Crack in door wood panel 2005 LS430
Well we had another ice storm and a huge shift in temperature here in IA. Got my my car last night and saw a hairline crack running along the full length of my drivers side wood panel on the door.
I watched videos on Lexus making these wood panels and they put a high quality laminate under many layers of urethane and then polish it to a high sheen. My 05 spent its life in Florida for the most part and has a black interior... not a speck of rust anywhere, but the interior got pretty hot in the sun over the years. The top of the steering wheel has hairline cracks as well so I suppose the top wood panel may have been stressed from the huge temp shift cycles over time and finally gave.
I was thinking about trying a windshield crack repair kit on it every few inches to pressure-fill the hairline crack and then use alcohol to quickly wipe off the excess.
Love this car, just hate to see a big ol crack in it.

Check on ebay and scrapyards for a used replacement part. A lot of this stuff is not too hard to source as a used part.

Do not use alcohol! It may softer the current finish. I have found that repair can be done by lightly buffing with extremely fine steel wool and then brushing or wiping on a light coat of Tung Oil. Let it dry and then buff with the steel wool. This should have the effect of filling in the hairline crack. You may have to repeat this procedure a few times, but in the end you will not be able to even see the crack.

any links to the videos...it would be interesting to see how they are made....as mentioned, I removed some of these to replace the cupholder, and the pieces weren't quite what I had thought, meaning all plastic...been curious how this is any different, than a car where the wood is plastic and they don't even say it's wood....
