Cleaned the MAF Sensor, Now Shifting is Smoother
I've only owned my '05 LS430 for a couple of months, but from day one I was pretty unhappy with the shifting compared to the '97 ES300 that it replaced. It just wasn't very smooth, but I just chocked it up to an inferior transmission. (It's a Lexus, I should have known better.)
Anyway, I'd read about how easy it is to clean the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor, so I figured what the heck, I'll clean it and perhaps my mileage will improve. I pulled it out and sure enough, it was pretty dirty. I cleaned it with a can of MAF Sensor Cleaner, reinstalled it, and -- guess what? The mileage didn't improve, but my LS430 now shifts far more smoothly, like a brand new car (it has 147k on the ticker).
And all it cost was a can of cleaner -- about 10 bucks.
Weird.

Cleaning the throttle body
That sounds like a good idea, and I'm guessing I'll find instructions on how to do that in this great forum.

here you go.
after you do this you need to disconnect the neg side of your battery for a couple of minutes so your ecu can relearn.
